What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope: The Paper Machine Project Manager will lead capital and improvement projects related to paper machine operations at an international paper mill. This role is responsible for planning, executing, and delivering projects on time and within budget while ensuring alignment with safety, quality, and production goals. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in paper manufacturing processes and proven experience in project management within industrial environments.

Primary responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Project Leadership: Manage end-to-end execution of paper machine-related projects, including upgrades, rebuilds, and new installations.

  • Coordinate cross-functional teams including engineering, maintenance, operations, procurement, and external contractors.

  • Planning & Budgeting: Develop detailed project plans, schedules, and budgets.

  • Monitor project progress and control costs to ensure financial targets are met.

  • Technical Oversight: Provide technical guidance on equipment selection, process improvements, and system integration.

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and environmental regulations.

  • Stakeholder Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Prepare and present project updates, risk assessments, and performance reports.

  • Safety & Compliance: Promote a culture of safety and ensure all project activities adhere to mill safety protocols.

  • Manage permitting and regulatory documentation as required.


Ideal Background

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Civil Engineering from an accredited university is preferred. Certification: Professional Engineering and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) registration is highly preferred.

Experience: This position requires up to 10 years of relevant experience in engineering and project management.

  • Knowledge of the Hargrove project execution procedures.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in complex project management.

  • Ability to lead a team to deliver on commitments.

  • A comprehensive understanding of the function of all engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction processes.

  • Ability to manage client relationships in complex situations.

  • Ability to relate easily to others in the business community such as customers, suppliers, contractors, government, professional and trade associations.

  • Ability to handle stress with poise.

  • Understanding of existing and potential customer needs and preferences.

  • Ability to delegate authority appropriately.

  • Ability to clearly communicate expectations and requirements to team members and to structure accountability.

  • Ability to set priorities.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability with team orientation.

  • Excellent listening and communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Excellent presentation skills.

  • Excellent leadership and organizational skills.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
