Job Summary:
The Industrial Journeyman Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment in an industrial environment. This role involves working with high-voltage systems, motor controls, power distribution, and industrial automation, while ensuring all work is performed in compliance with national and local electrical codes and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, wiring, fixtures, and industrial equipment.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical issues in motors, control panels, PLCs, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Interpret and work from electrical schematics, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer manuals.
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical systems and components.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair.
- Install conduit, cable trays, and raceways in accordance with NEC (National Electrical Code) standards.
- Collaborate with engineers, maintenance staff, and other trades to ensure optimal system performance.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed.
- Comply with all OSHA and site-specific safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Listen, follow directions, and complete assigned work
- Valid Journeyman Electrician License (State-issued).
- High school diploma or GED; technical training in electrical systems preferred.
- Minimum 4 years of industrial electrical experience.
- Strong understanding of 3-phase systems, transformers, switchgear, and industrial control systems.
- Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and electrical testing equipment (e.g., multimeters, megohmmeters).
- Ability to read and interpret complex electrical blueprints and technical documents.
- Experience with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and industrial automation systems.
- Familiarity with NFPA 70E standards and arc flash safety.
- Knowledge of motor controls, VFDs, and relay logic.
- Welding or fabrication skills are a plus but not required.
- Previous work in a manufacturing, refinery, or heavy industrial environment.
