Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to be based in; Denver, CO; or Houston, TX; or Chicago, IL

The Senior Mechanical Engineer works in a highly collaborative environment on a wide range of projects. The ideal candidate will have a passion for designing building mechanical systems and supporting junior staff. The Engineer knows how to perform the technical calculations and design, understands the project requirements and the effort required to complete the work. The candidate should be able to design the projects from concept up to construction and delivery to the Client. Candidate should be capable of working independently with limited supervision to complete both small and large complex projects. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with internal and external clients is required. Candidate must be well organized, be able to demonstrate critical thinking and can quickly recognize issues and be part of the solution.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Mechanical engineering from conceptual design through construction administration, commissioning and post-occupancy
  • Be competent in all aspects of mechanical systems design for a variety of types of projects or markets to complete routing engineering assignments and calculations
  • Writing reports for internal and external purposes based on findings
  • Stays current on codes and technologies appropriate to the Mechanical discipline
  • Researches, develops, designs, specifies, and witnesses the testing of mechanical systems, equipment, components, and materials, applying principles and techniques of mechanical engineering
  • Organizes and conducts site visits for the purpose of data collection and evaluation of mechanical systems, equipment, components, and materials for projects with and without well-defined scopes
  • Develops designs within a BIM design environment
  • Develops, designs, and specifies equipment, components and materials for all building
  • Coordinating with multiple disciplines and acting as mechanical engineer point of contact to ensure that coordinated projects are delivered within budget on schedule and with high quality work.
  • Assist in proposal preparation in conjunction with the senior leadership of the office
  • Manage and work on multiple projects with other team members and mentors junior staff
  • Ensures discipline plans that are created meet overall project team requirements for project scope and schedule
  • Review team member's work for quality and recognition of training requirements
  • Attend and present to owners, clients and architects as needed.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or similar field+8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration
  • Experience in designing complex hydronic systems, steam, VRF systems and sustainable designs. This includes cooling towers, water cooled chillers, air cooled chillers, hot water and steam boilers, geothermal systems, etc.
  • Experience in developing specification books in alignment with design and specific performance criteria
  • Instrumentation and controls design/engineering experience
  • Revit and CAD experience
  • Ability to use load calculation software such as Trace700 and other energy modeling softwares such as eQuest, IES is a plus.
  • Competent in all conventional aspects of mechanical engineering and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard mechanical engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of ten (10) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Plumbing and Fire Protection system design experience
  • Medical gas piping design experience is preferred
  • Analyze equipment energy use for optimizing systems selection
