DESCRIPTION

Reporting to University Centers' Facilities Supervisor, Painter is responsible for performing journey-level painting and surface finishing work across a variety of projects within the University Centers and Student Center. This role involves selecting appropriate tools, materials, and paint products; preparing surfaces by cleaning, sanding, patching, and priming; and applying paints, varnishes, sealants, and other finishes using brushes, rollers, and both conventional and airless spray equipment to achieve high-quality, long-lasting results.

Additional responsibilities include repairing cand performing patchwork on stucco, lath, and plaster surfaces. The Painter will also be expected to cover and protect surrounding areas, use fillers such as putty and plaster to repair cracks, and ensure a clean and professional work environment.

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of and hands-on experience with the tools, equipment, and materials of the trade. The Painter must be able to work independently or as part of a crew, demonstrating sound judgment, precision, and attention to detail in all aspects of the job.

The Painter will also respond to weekend emergency calls related to all skilled trades, including carpentry, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing and must be capable of assessing situations and coordinating with the appropriate personnel or taking appropriate action as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated journey-level painting skills acquired through extensive experience in universities, municipalities, or other large, multi-purpose facilities. Possesses in-depth knowledge of diverse painting techniques, tools, and materials, with proven ability to prepare various surfaces, mix paints, and apply coatings in compliance with established specifications, industry best practices, and safety standards.

  • Experience preparing surfaces to be painted such as sanding, scraping, wire brushing, and strip with a stripping compound. Knowledge of and demonstrated experience working with construction materials used in painting trade. Experience determining repair needs.

  • Extensive experience in hand-finishing drywall to a Level 4 standard, including taping, embedding joint tape, applying multiple coats of joint compound, and sanding surfaces to a smooth, paint-ready finish.

  • Thorough knowledge of and demonstrated experience with the proper use of all power and hand tools (including power saw, power sander, airless spray gun) used in performance of assigned tasks, including cleaning, maintenance and care.

  • Understanding of color theory and effective color matching techniques.

  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge with working with wood and metal structures, sheetrock, molding and trim.

  • Qualified operator of lifts including scissor lifts and boom lifts.

  • Skill to organize and prioritize work. Ability to work effectively in a service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities. Ability to follow through and meet deadlines,and possess problem-solving skills and sound judgement.

  • Demonstrated journey-level skills in construction, installation and fabrication techniques typical in the trades: HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical and Carpentry.

  • Knowledge and understanding of related safety practices and use of power equipment and tools related to job functions and utilize all equipment common to the building maintenance trades.

  • Demonstrated skills in maintenance and repair procedures including but not limited to procedures including preventive maintenance, breakdown repair and troubleshooting.

  • Proven skills and ability to read and interpret blueprints and systems diagrams and to perform mathematics typically used in the trade.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Work schedule is Sunday - Thursday, 6:30am - 3:00 p.m.

  • Must have access to reliable transportation and/or valid California driver's license to operate university vehicles.

  • Must have general knowledge of physical work safety procedures and use proper safety gear as necessary.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $94,336 - $94,336 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $45.18 - $45.18
