This position will require skilled work in the operation and care of a sweeper to maintain County roads with posted speeds of less than 45 mph. It may also require operation of light and select heavy construction equipment to perform Stormwater system construction and maintenance. Employees in this classification operate more complex and specialized equipment and are required to exercise skill and care in the operation of equipment. Knowledge of NPDES and FDOT regulations are emphasized. Duties require considerable skill in working to operate heavy equipment and working efficiently and independently.
An employee in this position who regularly work a shift where most of the hours worked falls after midnight and before 6 a.m. will be paid a shift differential pay of 10%.
This Automotive Equipment Operator 2 position is located at: 22211 U.S. Highway 19 North, Clearwater, FL 33765. Work Schedule: Monday - Thursday; 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
What Will You Do
Operate heavy equipment with specialized training in operating a street sweeper that cleans streets of trash and other accumulations, along street near curb.
Perform daily safety inspections of assigned equipment prior to and after use.
Determine best operation routing for efficiency.
Perform minor servicing work of sweepers.
Perform other job-related tasks that are not job specific to street sweeper duties.
Understand OSHA, NPDES, standards and other work-related policies.
Set barricades, act as flag man and participates in general labor work as required.
Perform related work as assigned or required.
What Do You Need
6 months experience in the operation of a Street Sweeper; or
A Public Works Academy training certificate for equipment operators or
A Pinellas County employee equipment certification that includes experience or training on job related equipment(s); or
An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Commercial Driver's License B upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.
Must be able to work and drive at night, third shift.
Complete Illicit Discharge, Spill Prevention, and Response Training; ICS 100, 200, & 700 Training; Erosion & Sediment Control.
Complete OSGA 10-hour Construction Industry training.
Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
Highly Desirable
2 years' experience in the operation of street sweeper.
Maintain a valid Florida Class "A" Commercia driver license.
Maintain an up-to-date Florida Department of Transportation Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) Intermediate Level Certificate.
Mechanical aptitude to evaluate sweeper problems for repair requests.
Ability to work pre-dawn hours as scheduled on a regular basis, depending on shift assignment.
Basic computer skills and capacity to learn new software/systems.
Understanding of and familiarity with Pinellas County infrastructure.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of various street maintenance equipment, their use, and maintenance.
Knowledge of traffic regulations and safe driving practices.
Knowledge of street locations ana ability to follow detailed street descriptions.
Skill in the care and operation of assigned equipment (i.e., street sweeper vehicle, dump truck, skid steer loader, tractor, and basic hand tools).
Ability to assist in training of other employees on street sweeper.
Ability to move controls to activate rotary brushes and water spray.
Ability to know your location and to know where other objects are in relation to you and the vehicle.
Ability to lift large size debris into sweeper or pick-up truck.
Ability to work unsupervised following instructions and procedures, including keeping accurate work records and reporting issues to Supervisor.
Ability to work under adverse weather conditions and possession of sufficient physical strength and agility to operate heavy equipment and perform manual labor.
