Description

Position Purpose

This position performs maintenance and manufacturing tasks to aircraft, aircraft parts and components in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and Erickson requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Aircraft Sheet Metal Fabricator is responsible for complex part fabrication/manufacturing. One in this position is required to perform restoration work on aircraft sheet metal components. This role is responsible for repairing and fabricating new parts from original parts, blueprints, and engineering drawings. The Sheet Metal Fabricator must operate in compliance with company safety practices and perform other duties as assigned.

Sheet Metal Fabricator I (Level 1) is responsible for performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned within the series. Employees at this level receive frequent to occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and become fully aware of company Procedures and Standard Operating Procedures. Advancement to level 2 is based on demonstrated proficiency in all aspects of the repair and fabrication process, conducting design reviews, and successful completion of project responsibilities with minimum oversight.

The Sheet Metal Fabricator II (Level 2) is distinguished from the Sheet Metal Fabricator I (Level 1) by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned. Employees perform more difficult and responsible types of duties including assisting project management responsibilities when assigned. Employees at this level must be fully trained and aware of all applicable and Standard Operating Procedures. Three to seven years of aircraft maintenance or manufacturing experience is required.

Sheet Metal Fabricator III (Level 3) is distinguished from the Sheet Metal Fabricator II (Level 2) by the level of responsibility assumed and the complexity of duties assigned. Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties including assuming project management responsibilities when assigned. Employees at this level must be fully trained and aware of all applicable and Standard Operating Procedures. Additionally, they mentor mechanics and foster technical growth. Four or more years of increasingly responsible aircraft maintenance or manufacturing experience is required.

Essential Job Functions

Perform restoration work on aircraft sheet metal components. Repair and fabricate parts using a variety of hand and power tools, safely and with care and precision.

Read and interpret mechanical/engineering drawings and technical instructions.

Understand and follow direction with general supervision.

Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Any other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

Standard Tool Kit required.

Proven technical and mathematical aptitude.

Ability to read and interpret mechanical/engineering drawings and technical instructions.

Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools, safely and with care and precision, are essential.

Ability to operate equipment.

Proven ability to communicate effectively orally and written.

Ability to lift equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Ability to apply finger and hand dexterity in using hand tools, be able to move around the shop/hangar area and within aircraft continuously throughout the workday.

Level I

0-3 years' experience fabricating/manufacturing airframe, HVAC or marine (or equivalent) parts and using sheet metal tools and equipment.

Level II

A&P license desired but not required.

3-7 years' experience fabricating/manufacturing airframe, HVAC, or marine parts (or equivalent) and using sheet metal tools and equipment.

Ability to work both autonomously without supervision and the ability to provide guidance/light supervision in work area.

Level III

A&P license desired but not required.

4+ years' experience fabricating/manufacturing airframe, HVAC, or marine parts and using sheet metal tools and equipment.

Ability to work both autonomously and in supervisory role.
