Reporting to the Engineering Manager in Powertrain Design and Evaluation, the person in this role will support the Powertrain Design & Evaluation department's objective to build "World Class Powertrains in North America." What you'll be doing Utilizing the Toyota Design Process and Standards to produce design deliverables such as 3D models, 2D drawings, technical reports, and instruction sheets. Participating in routine Design Reviews and reporting key metrics of your designs. Developing countermeasures to meet design targets related to cost, mass, and fatigue strength based on evaluation and quotation results. Building relationships with key stakeholders, including drivetrain and vehicle design, TMC engine design, purchasing, and assembly plants. Project managing North American suppliers to ensure timely delivery of quality parts aligned with Toyota milestones. Implementing process improvements to enhance PDE's design capabilities, improving quality and on-time delivery of design deliverables. Conducting benchmarking of similar designs to ensure competitiveness in cost and customer expectations. Training in the Toyota Way, with travel required up to 10% and potential overtime of 20%. What you bring Bachelor of Science Degree (or above) in Mechanical Engineering. Automotive design/development experience. Demonstrable CAD skills and a strong understanding of GD&T. Proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong knowledge of conventional, hybrid, and electrified powertrains. Willingness to travel domestically and internationally. Team-oriented thinking and a "can-do" attitude. This position requires driving. A motor vehicle record that's acceptable by company standards is required for this position. Added bonus if you have Master of Science Degree in engineering. Experience in detail design of ICE peripheral services such as lubrication systems, belt systems, fuel systems, and cooling systems. Working knowledge of aluminum and iron castings, thermoplastics, stampings, and forgings. Experience with CREO, WBDM, and typical powertrain CAE design software (FEA, CFD, GT Power or similar). Hands-on experience with engine/powertrain assembly. Expertise in GD&T and typical ICE and transmission manufacturing methods. Familiarity with DRBFM and Quality Management principles.
