Summary : LJA is seeking a team-oriented, self-motivated individual to fill the position of Construction Manager. The position functions as the group manager which includes leading a team of inspectors and project representatives. The Construction Manager serves as the Client’s representative and is responsible for determining that the work of a third-party Contractor is performed in accordance with the construction contract, project plans, and specifications, and all other contract documents so as to guard against defects and deficiencies in the contractor’s work. The employee will be involved in all aspects of freight railroad project development including planning, design, and construction management. The position requires strong leadership and communication skills with team members, clients, and governmental agencies.

General Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating assigned construction inspection work on multiple projects, including meeting schedules and budgets.
  • Ability to lead meetings with clients, third-party Contractors, consultants, team members, and governmental agencies independently, without assistance.
  • Supervision of construction inspection personnel; develop and mentor team members on a daily basis
  • Collaborate with Senior Managers and provide input on the direction of the group
  • Promote a safe work environment by monitoring operations to ensure that employees and third-party Contractors comply with safety and operating rules, policies, procedures, and governmental regulations.
  • Must be able to immediately respond to safety concerns as they arise.
  • Build a positive relationship with employees, clients, third-party Contractors and public entities based on mutual respect and strong business ethics.
  • Direct, coordinate activities, and allocate the proper resources to meet construction project demands and ensure quality, responsive services to clients.
  • Analyze expenditures and other financial information to develop plans and budgets for increasing profits and reducing costs.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering / Technology / Construction Management or equivalent. Individual without a degree should have at least 12 years of experience in the industry. Military experience is a plus.

Required Experience:

  • Eight years of railroad construction management and inspection experience is required.
  • Detailed working knowledge of all applicable FRA rules and regulations.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, as well as analytical skills for reviewing costs and preparing budget reports.
  • Time management, organizational and effective planning skills to achieve work deadlines.
  • Ability to work outdoors and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Computer Skills Microsoft Office
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to build strong relationships and lead a team.

Physical Requirements:

  • Travel will be required.
  • Driving to and from various jobsites and outside meetings
  • Good vision to recognize colors and accurately estimate distances
  • Potential to work in inclement (hot/cold/rain) weather.
