POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for an experienced Associate Principal Engineer to join our team and contribute to the design and execution of complex structural projects. In this role, you will work closely with senior engineers and project teams to develop innovative, safe, and cost-effective structural solutions for a variety of projects. You will be responsible for analyzing and designing structural systems, ensuring compliance with codes and regulations, and overseeing the preparation of technical drawings and reports. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in structural engineering principles, excellent problem-solving skills, and experience in both design and project management. What youll do:
1. Leads the structural design of modular rack systems, structural frames, and lifting/shipping enclosures for prefabricated MEP assemblies.
2. Develops engineering calculations and performs structural analysis to ensure compliance with building codes, material standards, and load requirements.
3. Collaborates with project engineers, industrial engineers, CAD teams, and fabrication leads to integrate structural systems with MEP layouts.
4. Provides stamped structural drawings and documentation for shop fabrication and field use.
5. Performs structural checks for rigging, lifting points, overland transport, and crane pick/load conditions.
6. Evaluates and optimizes structural design for material efficiency, durability, ease of assembly, and safe handling during transit and installation.
7. Serves as a subject matter expert on structural integrity and shipping logistics for modularized construction.
8. Collaborates with leadership to identify needs for internal resources (e.g., inspection team, CX, etc.).
9. Provides strategic input on personnel planning, emerging trends in the structural engineering field, and project delivery approaches as the team grows.
10. Builds relationships with principal engineers and their teams across regions to strengthen the structural engineering presence and ensure internal peers and clients recognize our structural expertise.
11. Establishes a structural engineering guidebook and develops tools to provide engineers and field personnel with practical guidelines (e.g. load capabilities across teams and clients).
What youll need to be successful:
Expert knowledge of structural engineering principles and relevant building codes (IBC, ASCE, AISC, ACI), with emphasis on modular construction, skids, pipe racks, and prefabricated systems.
Skilled in structural analysis and design, including seismic design, point load and center of gravity calculations, pipe stress analysis tools (e.g., Caesar II), foundation design, and structural code compliance for plant pads.
Proficient in structural modeling and detailing using Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, and structural analysis software such as RISA, STAAD, and SAP2000.
Strong understanding of MEP system integration, prefabrication processes, rigging/lifting best practices, and transport logistics to support safe and efficient modular installation.
Efficient communicator and team leader, capable of coordinating cross-functional teams, managing structural deliverables, and driving alignment across disciplines and trades.
Proven ability to act as Engineer of Record (EOR), mentor junior staff, and influence internal structural standards, tools, and design guidelines.
What you bring to the table:
Bachelors degree in Structural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering; Masters degree preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) license required; SE license preferred
12 years of experience in structural engineering with a focus on steel structures, modular systems, or industrial frameworks
