  • 1st shift position (supporting East Assembly);
  • Perform assembly operations using standard work documents, blueprints, safe job procedures, and visual aids within Takt time. This will require extensive problem solving skills to properly assess and compensate for variations due to incoming part quality, process variations, process changes, engineering changes and part shortages.

Education / Training

  • Diesel engine repair/rebuild certification or 5 years practical experience;
  • Requires high school diploma/GED or technical certification;
  • Strong computer skills - Microsoft Office and Data Acquisition software proficiency desired.

Key Job Elements

  • Performs quality inspections, charts quality data. Monitor quality trends. This will require extensive problem solving skills to properly assess and compensate for variations due to incoming part quality, process variations, process changes, engineering changes and part shortages;
  • Perform maintenance on engines in engine shop as required. Perform repairs and calibration on all test cell equipment as required;
  • Uses mechanic's hand tools, precision measuring instruments, gauges, test equipment, hoists, work platforms;
  • Electrical/Electronic background or training desired;
  • Data acquisition/analysis experience desired;
  • Strong communication skills required, both verbal and written. Must have good interpersonal and verbal skills in order to interface with customers and employees;
  • Must have proven mechanical and technical aptitude;
  • Conduct tests on heavy duty diesel engines using a dynamometer cell and test automation software;
  • Perform rework without standard work documents as needed;
  • Follow technical instructions and work closely with engineering staff to assure engines are performing as requested during testing;
  • Prepare engines for dynamometer cell testing, including replacing components and installing measurement artifacts;
  • Transport very heavy loads with crane, power pusher, or electric pallet jack;
  • Flexibility, initiative and the willingness to respond to shifting time and project demands;
  • Drive 5S adherence and complete 5S audits;
  • Professional experience with camshafts, bearings, gears, and/or high-speed machinery;
  • Conduct Standard Work audits;
  • Drive adherence to start -of-shift checklists;
  • Cross train and ensure that operator training is conducted in a timely fashion;
  • Must be a self-starter and ability to demonstrate strong initiative. Capable of interpreting technical instructions, dealing with large degrees of variation with part and process consistency while delivering the highest levels of quality components;
  • May also be required to operate manual machines such as lathes and grinders.

Qualifications and Experience

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the essential functions of the job:

  • Experience in troubleshooting complex mechanical and electronic engine systems;
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude;
  • Debug mechanical, electrical, and software problems;
  • Travel to other PRS facilities and/or customer locations for engine warrantee/service;
  • Certified Rigging Trained.

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met successfully to perform the essential functions of the job:

  • May be required to work in the shop and/or move up to 35 pounds;
  • May be working near moving mechanical parts, overhead cranes and lift truck traffic;
  • May be required to wear hearing protection in designated areas;
  • Requires metatarsal safety shoes and approved safety glasses;
  • May require travel for customer service;
  • May require working with diesel engine oil, diesel fuel oil, and diesel engine coolant;
  • May require the use of elevated work platforms.
