Position Summary
The Structural Engineer plays a hands-on, technical role within our engineering team.
Main responsibility is to create and analyze complex dry bulk storage structures and projects from concept through production.
This role combines project execution, engineering design, structural analysis, connections, modelling, detailing and collaboration across departments.
The ideal candidate thrives on solving technical challenges and enjoys working directly with customers and fabricators. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys seeing their own design come to life in the shop!
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Pre-Engineering Support
Develop concept drawings and 3D models to support discovery calls with customers.
Contribute technical input for estimating and quoting.
Project Execution
Lead assigned projects from kickoff through production release.
Translate customer requirements into manufacturable designs.
Develop approval drawings and shop fabrication drawings.
Create material lists and support purchasing processes, including identifying alternate suppliers as needed.
Engineering & Design
Create structure conceptual layouts to fulfill customers' needs.
Perform structural analysis with supporting hand calculations, including base reaction report, using RISA 3D, Scia, or similar software per ASCE/IBC codes.
Model projects in 3D and create customer approval drawings using SDS2, CREO Parametric 3D (or equivalent).
Detail connections, weldments, and piece parts for fabrication.
Review and approve drawing packages, cut lists, and fabrication documentation.
Technical Leadership & Team Collaboration
Participate in daily or weekly team engineering meetings.
Help refine engineering standards and processes to support quality, safety, and code compliance (ASCE, IBC, OSHA, ANSI).
Collaborate closely with Sales, Operations, and Production to meet deadlines and customer expectations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
5+ years of engineering experience in structural steel in the industrial sector.
Strong 3D modeling skills (SDS2 or CREO Parametric preferred).
Proficiency in structural design and analysis of beams, columns, bracing, connections, base plates, anchor bolts, and concrete foundations.
Familiarity with industry codes & standards including ASCE, IBC, ANSI, and OSHA.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Positive, proactive attitude and team-first mindset.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
Willingness to work on-site, 45 hours per week.
Professional Engineering (PE or SE) license is preferred but not required.

Monday-Thursday: 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM CST
Friday: 7:00 AM - 12:00 PM CST
Total: 45 hours per week, on-site
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $80,000 - $110,000 + bonuses
