Job Description

Pay: $20.71 hourly

***This position is in the area of Public Works Stormwater and needs a Class B CDL, but a Class A CDL is preferred***

Minimum Preparation for Work:

Sufficient education to read and write; and

Two (2) years experience in the operation of the assigned equipment.

Necessary Special Qualifications:

Possession of an appropriate driver license for equipment operated and any license, training or certification required by law or regulation to complete assigned tasks.

Nature of Work:

This is skilled work in the operation of a variety of complex or heavy automotive equipment.

An employee in this class operates automotive equipment requiring a fairly high degree of skill and manipulative ability for utility construction tasks as well as container delivery. On certain specific assignments employee is closely supervised; however, on routine assignments supervision is general in nature. An employee in this class may exercise supervision as a lead worker for a small group of semi-skilled or unskilled workers. It is distinguished from Equipment Operator III primarily by the kind of equipment operated.

Examples of Work:

Completes pre-trip inspections, checks equipment for routine servicing needs and provides minor maintenance work when required which includes ensuring that all equipment and systems are operational.

Operates a backhoe, tractor, and jackhammer on a utility construction crew.

Operates polycarts, manualy lifts, and secures containers, for container pickup and delivery.

Operates hydro-lift, trenching machines, and tapping machine.

Operates a hydro-jet and rod truck.

Completion of various paperwork to include vehicle condition report, and daily route/productivity sheet associated with container pickup and delivery.

Runs paint machines for the purpose of striping streets and parking lots.

Drives and operates a vac-all, removing leaves and trash from basins.

Lays and repairs pipe in utility construction work.

Washes and cleans cans in container pickup and deliver.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of several kinds of complex automotive equipment.

Knowledge of the operating principles of automotive equipment used on various jobs.

Knowledge of basic maintenance requirements for safe equipment operation.

Knowledge of the traffic laws of Pensacola and the State of Florida.

Skilled in the operation of the assigned equipment.

Ability to operate automotive equipment efficiently and safely.

Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Ability to operate light equipment.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.

Mental and Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to hold or feel, reach with hands and arms, walk, talk, smell and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, crouch and crawl. Specific vision abilities include near distance, far distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

The employee regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 100 pounds.

Work Environment:

An employee in this job is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and has a risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.
