Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.
Operate assigned equipment safely and in accordance with good industry practices.
Move levers, depress foot pedals, or turn dials to operate cranes, cherry pickers, electromagnets, or other moving equipment for lifting, moving, or placing loads.
Clean, lubricate, and maintain mechanisms such as cables, pulleys, or grappling devices, making repairs as necessary.
Inspect cables or grappling devices for wear and install or replace cables, as needed.
Inspect ground conditions and set up accurately.
Manipulate cables, chains, shackles, and other equipment.
Have the knowledge on when to use soft slings, chains, and wire ropes.
Direct helpers engaged in placing blocking or outrigging under cranes.
Ascend and work at heights up to 100 feet.
Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
Direct truck drivers backing vehicles into loading bays and cover, uncover, or secure loads for delivery.
Load or unload bundles from trucks or move containers to storage bins, using moving equipment.
Review daily work or delivery schedules to determine orders, sequences of deliveries, or special loading instructions.
Weigh bundles, using floor scales, and record weights for company records.
Required Education & Experience:
One year certificate from college or technical school preferred.
Or three - five years of heavy equipment operation.
NCCCO or NCCER Preferred
Trained/Certified in Crane Signals
Knowledge of communicating through radios.
Working Conditions:
Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, etc.
May work around fumes, odors, chemicals, and dust.
Traverse and negotiate gangways and scaffolding at varying heights.
Enter and work in Operator's cab and similar confined spaces.
Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved.
Traverse and negotiate uneven surfaces.
Must wear PPE when necessary.
Necessary Equipment Operation:
American and Manatewok cranes ranging from 40 to 150 tons.
Special Skills:
Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, and technical manuals.
Perform basic mathematical functions.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
High performance and a strong team player.
