Description

The City of Richmond Department of General Services is seeking highly qualified candidates to fill the position of Electrician, Senior in the Facilities Management Division. The incumbent will provide skilled electrical maintenance to a variety of systems and equipment, and provide installing, maintaining and repairing electrical equipment including lighting, motors, generators, controls, conduits, and wiring. This class also may lead or provide directions and training to other staff, including electricians with less experience. As assigned, work may include: providing on-call emergency response; implementing new electrical technologies such as automated control systems, LED lighting, and solar power; performing preventative maintenance of high and low voltage electrical systems; troubleshooting electrical problems and making electrical repairs; overseeing new projects; reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, and schematics; operating equipment to assist in repairs such as bucket trucks, dump trucks, front-end loaders, backhoes, trenchers, bobcats, and forklifts; operating diagnostic equipment such as ammeters, ohmmeters, circuit tracers, infrared imaging/thermography devices, etc.; monitoring and surveying energy usage; obtaining pricing for parts and materials; and following safety rules and regulations.

Duties include but are not limited to

  • Provides maintenance and repairs to City electrical systems and equipment, including making decisions on scheduling/queuing.
  • Ensures proper operation of electrical systems by installing and maintaining electrical equipment such as circuits, lighting, motors, conduits, wiring, high voltage switch gears, telemetering equipment, etc.
  • Perform inspections of fire alarms and sprinkler equipment.
  • Performs routine maintenance checks, including preventative maintenance work.
  • Maintain, test, and troubleshoot equipment; reading blueprints, schematics, sketches, and code books; and designing electrical systems for power and lighting.
  • Performs routine administrative duties such as putting in requests for and obtaining pricing for parts, equipment, and materials; updating and enter information into the database management system; and maintaining records of stated/finished work orders.
  • Assist other trades in performing tasks such as lock-out and tag-out of equipment for safety and participating in training and development activities to stay current on knowledge and issues, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

City of Richmond Department of Public Works employees who work in this position are considered essential personnel and may be required to work beyond scheduled hours, during inclement weather, and during declared emergencies.
