The primary duties of the Electrical, Telmunications and Fire Safety Manager include, but are not limited to, managing the repair and maintenance of all electrical, telmunications, and fire safety systems and equipment, as well as the repair & replacement of some domestic appliances. The Electrical Manager will be responsible for establishing and administering maintenance schedules, annual budgets, and will assist in the identification and justification for necessary capital improvements. Performs responsibilities in accordance with all Bard College and Buildings & Grounds (B&G) Department policies and procedures.
Job Duties
Under the direction of the Director of Buildings & Grounds, the Electrical, Telmunications and Fire Safety Manager leads repair and maintenance efforts for all electrical, telmunications, and fire safety systems and equipment. Manages and supervises the maintenance, repair, and project work of the electrical, telmunications, and fire safety staff and other trades staff as assigned. Assigns work requests submitted into the work order system by students, faculty and staff.
Oversee maintenance, testing, and repairs of facility electric, generators, elevators, alarm systems, fire extinguishers, telephone systems, emergency phones, and data/telmunication equipment. Meet with students, faculty, and staff about work order issues that were submitted to determine the best way to address the issues in the most effective and efficient way
Manage union members and delegate day-to-day tasks to them. Manage after hour emergency call-ins and assign these call-ins to employees
Meet with faculty, students, and staff about campus issues to determine the best way to address them
Coordinate, direct, and schedule in-house installs within the B&G department andmunicate with other trades toplete these installs. This also applies to any installs provided by outside contractors. After installs areplete, checking that the work was done correctly and efficiently
Work with other trade managers and union members to assist with receiving estimates for repair costs or estimates for new projects. Obtain quotes and bids from outside contractors, and review those quotes and bids to ensure that the work being outlined is beneficial and appropriate for the College. Once the work isplete, checking that the entire scope waspleted per the contract
Obtain price quotes, create purchase requisitions and submit to Purchasing to order parts. Provide budget numbers on all requisitions and check that the product or service is being charged to the correct budget account. Provide invoices to purchasing when materials have arrived or service has beenpleted. Manage spending on blanket orders created for different vendors
Familiarization of tools and equipment used in the repair of electrical, telmunications, and fire safety equipment in buildings and structures; the operating principles of those systems, standard electrical equations and work safety practices related to work
Develops, assigns maintenance, and manages preventative maintenance schedules utilizing the campus work order system, to ensure that systems are running smoothly, efficiently, and in accordance to manufacture specifications
Oversees routine safety inspections on generators, fire safety systems, elevators, etc. in equipment rooms and other mechanical areas
Maintains the inventory of all necessary supplies including conduit, fittings, wire, lightbulbs and fixtures and tools. Ensures that inventories are secured,anized, and maintained at optimal inventory levels to prevent delays in work. Prepares estimates of material, labor and equipment needs, submits purchase orders and procures goods as required
Is available on-call and promptly and professionally responds to all requests for emergency repair service, including after-hours service calls
Ensures adnce to all OSHA regulations and internal safety policies and procedures
Oversees repair or replacement of domestic appliances such as electric stoves, overhead exhaust, and bathroom exhaust fans
Performs additional duties as assigned
Administrative Duties
To manage effectively in a College and Union environment, the successful candidate must take time to learn the policies and procedures and expectations outlines in the Bard College Employee Handbook and Collective Bargaining Agreement, specifically as they related to conduct, training, record keeping, performance evaluation, and corrective action.
Reviews and approves time off requests, time cards, prepares schedules for all assigned employees, and addresses any issues in an expedient way
Ensures that employees are properly trained before performing maintenance and repairs
Organizes equipment training and instructs staff in the use of all required tools and equipment. Ensures vehicles, equipment, and tools are safely used andply with OSHA and ANSI regulations
Works with architects, civil engineers, and designers or equipment and infrastructure capital projects, repairs, remodels, and renovations, including the review of submittals and plans
Obtains the necessary permits, as needed
Assists other department managers for the harmonious and expeditiouspletion of specific assignments
Qualifications
Must have a minimum of 5 years of electrical maintenance related experience as an Electrical Manager, Facilities Manager, or other related fields
High school graduate or the equivalent is required. A college degree or a Project Management certificate in a related field is preferred
Must have a strong and in-dept kledge of electrical systems including generators, transformers, and electrical panels. Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills are required
Should be experiences in managing projects in excess of $100,000 and possess the capability to oversee multiple jobs and projects simultaneously
Familiarity and understanding of site building codes. Must also possess a working kledge of OSHA regulations and have the ability to interpret mechanical blues and specifications
Supervisory experience leading union trades workers and managing vendors is desirable
Must have excellentmunication, interpersonal andprehension skills with the ability to work with all levels of management
Computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office programs including Excel and Word is highly desirable
Must have a valid NYS driver's license
Physical Requirements
Requires normal vision range, hearing, the ability to see color and the ability to distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols
Requires frequent walking, climbing ladder, and stairs
Requires lifting, transporting, pushing, pulling, and maneuvering items weighing up to 25 pounds with or without assistance
