Job Summary
This is skilled and semi-skilled work in the operation of moderately complex and heavy equipment, which also requires the performance of manual labor.
Work involves the operation of vehicles and equipment used in construction and maintenance projects, and to transport materials and personnel to and from work sites. Work also involves the use of power tools in preparing areas for construction. Work requires not only the safe and skilled operation of equipment but also maintains equipment. Work is performed under close supervision with verbal and written instructions issued regularly.

Safely operates knuckle boom truck, dump truck and trailer combination, backhoe, excavator, bush hog, skid steer, and any other related heavy equipment as required to assist in a variety of maintenance projects
Correctly operates chain saw in clearing rights-of-way
Correctly operates pressure washer
Correctly performs routine maintenance on all equipment to ensure proper operation
Routinely assist in directing and supervising Community Service details and records
Often assists in the maintenance of equipment
Performs heavy manual labor as necessary
Performs other related duties as required or directed
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Completion of a standard high school diploma, GED or equivalent from a regionally or nationally accredited school.
Licenses(s): Valid Class A, Georgia Commercial Driver's License is required for this position.
Experience: Experience in similar specialized construction trade operating heavy equipment and performing heavy civil work (grading, pipe laying, flatwork, etc.) experience in operating heavy equipment such as but not limited to knuckle boom truck, street sweeper truck, skid steer, backhoe, excavator, bush hog, tractors and construction equipment desired or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform to essential functions of the job.
Certification(s): Completion of a DOT flagger's course, or obtain within six (6) months from date of hire.

Knowledge of:
The operation and maintenance techniques of moderately complex heavy equipment
Heavy civil construction techniques and installation methods
Pipe laying, grading, hauling, flatwork
The operation and application of power tools and other various tools
State and local road safety rules and regulations
Safety practices and procedures
Skill and Abilities:
Operation of equipment in close proximity to utility lines
The basic concepts of general construction principles
To understand and follow verbal and written instructions
To communicate using a two (2) way radio
To establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and work in a team environment
To assemble materials and constructing rough products
Recognize hazardous waste
To safely operate light construction equipment
Lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
Equipment used: Heavy equipment such as but not limited to knuckle boom, truck, street sweeper truck, skid steer, excavator, backhoe, bush hog, tractors, small hand tools, cleaning supplies and traffic flag.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel, and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, climb ladders, and maneuver in low clearance area. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee will be required to walk, climb and otherwise traverse uneven and unstable terrain and often in extreme weather condition.
Working Conditions:
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including cold and high temperatures. The employee must be able to climb ladders and withstand heights, work in confined spaces, tolerate environments containing dust and dirt.
Lifting Requirements:
Regularly required to lift up to 50lbs and occasionally required to lift up to or over 75lbs.
