Public Works Skilled Laborer

Under general supervision, performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, parks, water and sewer systems, and other public infrastructure. Ensures safe and efficient operation of tools and equipment and performs other duties as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Performs street maintenance, including patching potholes, filling ditches, and clearing debris. Installs and maintains traffic and street signs. Collects and disposes of brush, trash, and debris using trucks and/or chippers. Maintains parks, city grounds, and rights-of-way through mowing, trimming, and general landscaping. Cleans, maintains, and secures tools and equipment. Assists with water and sewer line maintenance and repairs. Loads refuse and performs solid waste collection duties as needed. Responds to work orders and emergency situations as directed. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or GED required.

Valid Texas driver s license required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to learn and apply safety procedures and practices in public works operations.

Basic knowledge of hand and power tools, and light construction equipment.

Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform heavy manual labor.

Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and as part of a team.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

Working Conditions:

Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.

Exposure to hazards such as moving equipment, traffic, and construction zones.

Regular schedule of 40 hours per week with potential for overtime or emergency call-outs.
