Our Johnson City, TN Location is looking for someone to join their team as an Engineering Technician. This is a 1st shift position scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.

SCOPE

This position develops drawings and specifications from sketches and ideas that clearly demonstrate inspection procedures, creation of product, floor plans, instruction illustrations and technical drawings. Leads and participates in projects for process improvement, cost reduction and quality improvements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Uses computer assisted design equipment and software to develop/change designs, prepare final drawings of proposed drawings, check the dimensions of parts and materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure or projects.
  • Assists in the development of prototypes, including verifying the results of prototype drawings and specifications.
  • Prepares project timelines, works on cost reduction and process improvement projects.
  • Develops necessary documentation, work instructions and visual aids for process improvement activities.
  • Maintains the engineering document system to ensure that related documents are properly controlled and that generally accepted engineering practices are followed.
  • Follows the company's complaint handling process.
  • Develops and trains employees as needed for new process implementation.
  • Implements effective solutions to assigned CAPA's and other manufacturing and/or distribution related opportunities.
  • Works with external vendors to develop solutions to design or component/product non-conforming issues.
  • Works closely with the manufacturing shop floor to identify improvement opportunities and resolve issues with equipment, tooling and processes.
  • Conducts studies of time and motion to determine production capacities, product costing, and to develop solutions to improve labor productivity and safety.
  • Provides guidance on design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize projects.
  • Depending on the needs of the company, the employee may be entrusted with and asked to perform other tasks related to his/her competence.

EDUCATION: Associate's degree in Industrial Sciences or drafting preferred, or, the equivalent of education and work experience

YEARS AND TYPE OF EXPERIENCE:

  • 3-5 years related experience
  • Experience with automated equipment and manufacturing processes
  • High skill level in Auto CAD, SolidWorks, Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel required

KEY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & CAPABILITIES:

  • Knowledge and background of manufacturing processes, inspection, dimensioning, tolerance, machine shop skills also enable technician to better understand operations and assist in the design process.
  • Ability to frequently solve unique problems as well as the ability to create original and unique products.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to articulate thoughts and ideas effectively though both written and oral communication, as well as the ability to present ideas and concepts.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Read and understand documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to use various equipment including but not limited to, digital cameras, comparator, calipers, micrometer, scales, and microscopes as well as the ability to handle small sharp instruments.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and technical procedures.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence as well as technical procedures and instructions.
  • Ability to effectively and clearly communicate one-on-one and small group situation. Customers, clients, and/or other employees of the organization.
  • Strong knowledge of mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Demands:

  • Infrequent - Climbing or balancing, stoop, bend, kneedl, crouch or crawl. Operates heavy equipment
  • Moderate - Speaking, hearing, standing or walking

  • Works near moving mechanical parts

  • Climate controlled inside building. Will have times working outside and be exposed to normal exterior climate
