Experience & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 5 years plant experience (3 years in quarry operations) or related industry experience.
- Formal training or 2+ years on-the-job training in explosives use, handling, and safety.
- Strong knowledge of rock, gypsum, geological formations, and quarry processes.
- Expertise in storage, inventory control, and transport of explosives.
- Hazardous materials endorsement.
- Minimum 1 year operating heavy equipment.
- Ability to perform operational and preventive equipment maintenance; basic mechanical skills.
- Proven safety record.
- Physically capable of performing duties requiring bending, kneeling, walking, standing, climbing, lifting, and maintaining high manual dexterity and coordination.
What you will do:
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Quarry Operator to join our quarry operations team. This role involves operating a variety of heavy equipment, performing blasting operations, and serving as a relief operator for other positions within the quarry, including Crusher Operator, Assistant Crusher Operator, and Loader Operator. The Utility Operator plays a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate large quarry equipment, including dozers, loaders, drills, graders, crushers, and trucks.
- Serve as relief operator for other quarry positions during absences, fulfilling all responsibilities of the covered role.
- Conduct blasting operations for limestone in the main quarry and gypsum at off-site locations in accordance with State and Federal explosive handling regulations.
- Maintain accurate explosive inventory records.
- Perform maintenance and servicing of excavators with drill/hammer attachments.
- Adhere to all MSHA and plant safety policies, including Lockout/Tagout, confined space, hot work permits, and emergency response procedures.
- Ensure proper handling, containment, and disposal of lubricants, paints, solvents, and other hazardous materials in compliance with the Waste Management Plan.
- Maintain a safe and clean work area through daily housekeeping and workplace inspections.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, troubleshoot equipment issues, and apply best practices to maximize efficiency.
- Work in various locations and shifts as directed by plant supervisory personnel.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Dozers, loaders, drills (large and Furukawa), graders, excavators with drill/hammer, crusher, pickups, small trucks, explosives, and hand tools.
Materials Handled
- Limestone, sand, gypsum, lubricants, explosives (powder and caps).
