The Facilities Mechanic 2 is responsible for performing preventive maintenance, equipment setup, and facility repairs to ensure all machinery and building systems remain in optimal working condition. This role follows strict safety and food safety practices, serves as a lead on assigned projects, and provides guidance to seasonal maintenance helpers. Work involves troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining buildings, grounds, and production equipment, as well as completing designated projects.
Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment & Facility Maintenance
Troubleshoot and repair production equipment by identifying root causes and applying corrective measures.
Interpret and follow equipment manuals and specifications.
Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as inspecting drives, motors, and belts, checking fluid levels, and completing scheduled maintenance.
Identify and repair electrical issues on equipment and facility systems (including 480/3 wiring), following NFPA standards and PPE requirements.
Assist in disassembling and assembling production equipment to maintain proper sanitation and minimize contamination risks.
Team Leadership & Coordination
Serve as lead on maintenance assignments, providing direction and support to seasonal maintenance helpers.
Communicate progress and provide feedback on tasks to the supervisor.
Participate in daily startup meetings to review tasks, discuss issues, and align on priorities.
Manage multiple assignments, prioritizing tasks and adapting to changing needs.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain daily inspection logs, project updates, work order status, and records of materials/parts used.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
Minimum 4 years of multi-craft maintenance experience in an industrial environment.
Previous forklift and boom lift operation required.
Proven experience with 480/3 electrical wiring and control devices.
Welding experience (torches, MIG, and arc welders) required.
Skills & Knowledge:
Proficient with hand tools, standard power tools (metal/woodworking), basic machining tools (taps, dies, indicators), welding equipment, multi-meters, and basic electrical devices.
Strong understanding of advanced mathematics and ability to read/interpret blueprints and schematics.
Ability to follow company training and safety procedures, including forklift operations, Lock Out/Tag Out, Arc Flash boundaries, hot work permits, and food safety practices.
Lift up to 30 lbs consistently and 50 lbs occasionally.
Stand and walk for 8+ hours per shift.
Stoop, kneel, crawl, and climb as required.
Work at heights of 30+ feet.
Work in cold storage environments (0 to 40F) for up to 8 hours.
Must provide personal basic hand tools (e.g., standard-size wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, pliers, tape measure).
Company provides all power tools, specialty tools, and large equipment for department use.
