As a Product Design/Development Engineer at Trane Technologies, you will be a key member of a high performing team of product development engineers and designers for the Commercial Unitary Water Source Heat Pump (WSHP) Products. In this role, you will be responsible for designing the equipment and systems that meet our customers requirements. You will contribute to and lead engineering teams, develop concepts for new & improved commercial HVAC products, and solve complex technical problems leading to production of sustainable new products. This role works closely with other departments in engineering, manufacturing, marketing, service, and sourcing to create integrated and optimized designs and support ongoing business activities. This position is eligible for a Hybrid work schedule (3 or more days onsite a week) and will be based out of our Clarksville, TN or Waco-McGregor, TX office locations.

**What you will do:**

+ Develop HVAC refrigeration and airflow systems to meet performance, regulatory, quality, and cost requirements.

+ Review and understand the technical feasibility of product and internal requirements. Design and select robust and cost-effective components and develop engineering specifications.

+ Understand and apply applicable regulatory codes such as UL.

+ Complete system integration tasks including: engineering design, engineering specifications, support creation of layouts, and design reviews.

+ Develop laboratory test plans and analyze test data to ensure product performance and quality.

+ Use appropriate Six Sigma, Design for Reliability, Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and Failure Mode and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) tools.

+ Support the creation of the documentation package to ensure documentation reflects the design intent and that all required documents are completed on time and to the satisfaction of the internal customers.

+ Demonstrate that all knowledge gaps, Failures (FRACAS) and Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) items are resolved to minimize potential for quality escapes.

+ Demonstrate product reliability by working closely with reliability engineers, supplier quality engineers and laboratory technicians.

+ Participate in product improvement activities to identify opportunities to improve product performance and reduce cost. Lead projects to implement subsequent product design changes. Perform process improvement projects to improve team productivity.

+ Provide guidance and leadership to designers, lab technicians, and other team members.

+ Manage project schedules and teams for assigned projects.

+ Willingness and ability to travel up to two weeks at a time. Expected travel time ~ 10%.

**What you will bring:**

+ Bachelors Degree in Engineering or Enginering Technology

+ 2+ years experience of product design or engineering experience

+ Proven success in helping conduct new technology and new product development projects to improve the function, reliability, or cost of products and components

**Additonal Requirements:**

+ Familiarity with HVAC system functions including refrigeration, heat transfer, airflow, and ventilation.

+ Good understanding of the application of computer simulation tools and theory to HVAC system design.

+ Experience with application of various components used within HVAC systems such as coils, compressors, motors, and fans.

+ Understanding of reliability engineering tools.

+ Excellent technical, analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills.

+ Ability to make progress by completing tasks and deliverables in a multi-tasking environment (several concurrent assignments) on time.

+ Work effectively in a collaborative team environment.

+ Ability to efficiently understand and organize information necessary to make engineering decisions.

+ Strong verbal and written communications skills ability to communicate up, down, and across the organization.

+ Ability to follow internal engineering design processes and best practices.

**Compensation:**

Base Pay Range: $65,000 - $85,000
