Job Description The Construction Manager will support the construction project team at a refinery. This role involves overseeing contractor and project management, safety initiatives, quality assurance, scheduling, cost management, and change management, ensuring successful project execution. Responsibilities
- Communicate and verify prime contractor requirements and management expectations are adhered to by team members.
- Participate in project execution planning, including design reviews and model reviews when required.
- Understand, manage, and communicate individual project drivers such as safety, schedule, and cost, including risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure project-specific construction estimates are completed.
- Develop and submit for review project front-end deliverables like cost estimates, constructability reviews, and execution plans.
- Participate in project bid document assembly and contractor bid reviews.
- Verify acceptance of critical contractor documentation following the approved process.
- Provide mentorship in planning, onboarding, execution, and closeout of contractor's scope.
- Confirm personnel actively perform verifications against contractor's project documentation.
- Lead incident review, corrective action implementation, and project trend meetings.
- Manage project pillars of success: Safety, Quality, Cost, and Schedule.
- Lead contractor closeouts and lessons learned meetings.
- Develop, review, and implement safety initiatives and management systems.
- Lead project risk assessments and field hazard assessments.
- Mentor and provide feedback on safety maturity, perception, and adherence to OSHA and SMS.
- Develop and manage Health and Safety Execution Plans.
- Lead and manage the mentorship program for direct and indirect reports.
- Verify direct reports' training and competency related to their role and scope.
- Assist with development and verification of processes and systems to ensure effectiveness.
- Perform documented verifications and provide immediate feedback for adherence to processes and systems.
- Perform ongoing mentorship, competency, and performance evaluations.
- Verify contractor quality deliverables are audited and assessed.
- Manage the Master Deficiency List and lead project turnover management.
- Develop, communicate, and manage project-specific Construction Execution Plans.
- Lead development and updating of master project schedules.
- Manage and communicate project budgets, performance, and forecasting.
- Review and approve documented field-based project changes.
- Identify project risks and recommend resolutions.
- Communicate project status and risk identification related to Safety, Quality, Cost, and Schedule.
- Provide shift progress, risk, and look-ahead reporting.
- Maintain effective working relationships with the Project Management Team and stakeholders.
- Identify and communicate resource plans for contractors and personnel.
- Participate in contractor toolbox meetings.
- Lead internal meetings and maintain daily journal/log of key conversations and information.
- 10+ years of experience as a Construction Manager in large industrial/petrochemical projects.
- Formal construction management training or certification.
- Experience with construction, change order management, industrial construction, civil engineering, and estimation.
- Ability to lead and manage multiple aspects of construction projects.
- Trade certifications and a degree in Construction Management are assets.
- Experience in construction inspection and instrumentation.
- Prior refinery experience.
- Degree in Construction Management.
