Supervise and perform skilled building tasks, preventive and corrective maintenance, and minor construction and renovation. Under minimal direction, performs work in constructing, installing, maintaining and repairing building structures, hardware, and furnishings. May be required to serve in a supervisory role on large projects. Reports to the Supervisor of Building Maintenance and/or department head.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Supervises and carries out all maintenance tasks assigned for repairs, alterations and additions to buildings of the school system.
- Installs, maintains, alters, and repairs all types of building structure components, as well as hardware, such as doors, windows, and classroom/office furnishings.
- Performs all work in a skilled manner for the trade involved.
- Keeps abreast of all new techniques in the building trades and applies accordingly.
- Stands on call and willing to return to duty as an emergency arises for any building needs.
- Instructs and trains Maintenance Workers, Maintenance Craftsmen I and Custodians.

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Considerable knowledge of the standard practices and methods of building construction and repair.
- Skill in the use and care of tools of the trade.
- Ability to troubleshoot and correct problems in building structural components, hardware and furnishings.
- Has a valid Virginia motor vehicle operator’s license.
- Must be a self-starter and be able to work productively without close supervision.
- Must be able to read and work from blueprints, sketches and schematic drawings.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
