This Opportunity**

WSP USA Inc. is seeking a Senior Civil/Geotechnical Engineer with expertise in Heap Leach Facility Design to join our Mine Waste Team. This position is based in Tucson, Arizona. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work as part of a regional team on challenging mining, heavy civil, and geotechnical projects.

**Your Impact**

+ Contribute to a wide variety of mine waste geotechnical engineering projects, including managing geotechnical field investigations, laboratory testing programs, data interpretation, and geotechnical analyses.

+ Lead the civil design of mine waste containment facilities, encompassing initial layout and design, site selection and facility planning, geotechnical and hydrologic analyses, and the preparation of design drawings and technical specifications for construction.

+ Scope, direct, and review complex geotechnical analyses focused on soil mechanics, including stability, seepage, and thermal modeling; deposition modeling; and runout analyses for mine waste or water embankment dams and waste rock spoils.

+ Manage projects independently according to client-approved scopes of work, delivering high-quality reports on time and within budget, subject to senior review and oversight.

+ Collaborate with and lead multidisciplinary project teams.

+ Support technical proposals and design work packages in response to client needs.

+ Supervise and mentor junior engineers.

+ Foster and promote a safety-first culture.

+ Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, adhering to WSPs Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

+ Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

**Who You Are**

Required Qualifications

+ Bachelors degree in Civil or Geological Engineering

+ 5-10 years of relevant (post-degree) experience in a consulting engineering or mining industry environment

+ Demonstrated experience with tailings management and heap leach facility design in the mining industry, as well as proficiency with commonly used software packages

+ Expertise in making technical computations and calculations involving engineering principles, interpreting plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons with applicable regulations

+ Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to mid- and senior-level team members or project staff, with strict adherence to QA/QC standards

+ Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively, persuasively, and tactfully with employees at all levels of the organization

+ Strong analytical skills, tactical lateral thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize responsibilities in a high-pressure work environment

+ Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, regulators, and company-wide staff, even without formal hierarchical relationships

+ Sound knowledge of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering

+ Project management skills appropriate for your years of experience

+ Strong technical writing skills, with the capacity for critical thinking and problem-solving Ability to effectively delegate work and lead project teams

+ Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSPs health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies

+ Flexibility and adaptability to changing schedules and business needs

+ Willingness to travel occasionally as required by specific projects

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Masters degree preferred

+ Spanish language skills (verbal and written) are an asset

+ Project management skills
