Amentum is currently searching for an Automotive Painter to work in our El Centro, California location (NAF El Centro).

Job Summary:

The Automotive Painter removes and applies paint from contract units in accordance with customer specifications. Understands and applies various corrosion control methods and technologies. Coats surfaces of contract units with primer, paint, lacquer, epoxy, resin or other material, using brushes, rollers, spray guns and other devices. Removes old paint using liquid paint remover and scraper or plastic. Paint shop equipment encompasses a wide range of tools and machinery used in the process of painting surfaces in automotive settings. This includes everything from basic tools like brushes and masking tape to more specialized equipment like spray booths, paint guns and sand media blasting.

Preparations on surfaces with sandpaper and steel wool. Roughens aluminum surfaces with acid solution and steel wool to ensure that paint adheres to surface and provides corrosion control methods to customer specifications. Masks and covers portions of surfaces not to be painted. Paints insignia, letters or numerals on vehicle surface, using stencils.

In addition to Corrosion Control duties this Automotive Painter maintains, and updates paper, and electronic equipment records, provides Production updates, including positioning equipment in and out the shop, practices good housekeeping, tool control, Foreign Object Damage prevention, and safety.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or fee; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is regularly exposed to hot and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; extreme HOT; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, or may include unsafe conditions, questioning nonstandard operations or environmental factors that may involve unmitigated hazards, and providing feedback to supervisors and managers on all safety issues.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be a High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is required.
  • Must be able to obtain DEPARTMENT OF THE NAVY LOCAL POPULATION ID CARD/BASE ACCESS PASS REGISTRATION.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Experience in use of special tools/equipment required to perform assigned tasks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar in implementing general and specific operational, safety, quality and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures and policies pertaining to his/her job
  • Experience and/or appropriate training in Automotive Painting functions such as Surface preparation, spray guns, paint mixing, primers, fillers, abrasives various grits and familiar with air compressors.
  • Experience in Media Blaster operator.
  • Able to work efficiently with minimum supervision.

Salary and Other Compensation:

The hourly rate for this position is $28.41 per hour. Plus $7.50 per hour, up to 40 hours per week, for Health & Welfare.
