Position Summary:

The Light Equipment Operator for the Road Department is responsible for operating various types of light equipment and machinery to support road maintenance and construction activities. This role involves the safe and efficient operation of equipment such as small trucks, mowers, rollers/compactors, dump trucks, road-side tractors, skid steer/mini excavator, bucket truck, and other light-duty vehicles and machinery. The operator will work closely with the road maintenance team to ensure the timely completion of tasks and adherence to safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Must respond promptly to emergency situations such as inclement weather, snow removal, road closures or hazardous conditions, assist in clearing debris, or provide traffic control as needed; serve as flagger during maintenance activities.

Operate light equipment and vehicles including, but not limited to small trucks, mowers, rollers/compactors, dump trucks, road-side tractors, skid steer/mini excavator, bucket truck, and other light duty vehicles and machinery.
Perform routine inspections and maintenance checks on assigned equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance.
Assist in road maintenance activities such as pothole repairs, pavement marking, culvert installation, and shoulder grading.
Perform semi-skilled manual labor.
Support road construction and repair projects by transporting materials, operating compactors, and assisting with site preparation.
Follow established safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries during equipment operation.
Communicate effectively with supervisor and team members to coordinate work tasks and prioritize assignments.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment and work areas.
Adhere to environmental regulations and best practices when handling materials and operating equipment in sensitive areas.
Participate in training sessions and skill development programs to enhance job knowledge and performance.
Duties and responsibilities may be adjusted or modified based on operational needs and organizational requirements deemed necessary by the Road Supervisor or the Judge Executive.

Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience operating light equipment and vehicles preferred.
Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a clean driving record.
Knowledge of basic maintenance and troubleshooting techniques for light-duty equipment.
Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team environment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
Physical stamina and dexterity to perform manual tasks and operate equipment for extended periods.
Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Required to work occasional evenings, weekends, or overtime as needed.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
Manual dexterity to operate controls and perform maintenance tasks.
Visual acuity and depth perception for safe equipment operation.
Ability to work in environments with exposure to noise, vibration, and airborne particles.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $18.94 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
