We are seeking a highly motivated Fabrication Mechanic to join our Layout Department. The Layout Department is responsible for the planning and layout of all fabricating operations necessary for production. This position uses hand tools and equipment such as shears, rolls, presses, drills, sledgehammers, grinders, and torches. This is a 1 st shift position working M-F from 6:00am-2:30pm. What you will do
- Receive blueprints and instructions from drafting and engineering covering all types of fan designs of all alloy and carbon steel material and related fabricated items.
- Check all drawing and sketch information for the ability to fabricate various materials and designs with a high degree of accuracy. Notify the Group Leader and/or Engineering of problem areas.
- Prepare all components for welding, parts burned from the CNC burn table, cuts bar, angles pipe, etc.
- Prepare lists of materials for layout and provide Laborers and Machine Operators with quantities and sizes required.
- Check the availability of material from the CNC burn machine.
- Check the dimensional accuracy of the material delivered to the layout area.
- Use floor-operated overhead cranes, jib hoists, etc., to move material to and from the layout tables and areas, fabricating units, etc.
- Lay out sheet, plate, bar stock, weldments, etc. Make all necessary notations for fabricating, burning, fitting, tacking, welding, etc., and use templates as available.
- Set up and operate various fabricating units, such as shears, rolls, presses, punches, saws, etc., and inform Machine Operators of manufacturing requirements.
- Plan and perform hand and machine burning when required.
- Ensure all layout work is performed in a sequence that will not interfere with welding functions.
- Practice safety in all aspects of the job and participate in safety improvement programs
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Sheet metal fabrication experience preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Some tacking, fitting, and/or welding experience preferred.
- Must take initiative and be able to adapt to the ever-changing needs of the team.
- Requires the ability to read and interpret blueprints to determine the appropriate assembly procedures.
- Must be able to use measuring devices accurately to 1/32 of an inch.
- Requires ability to assemble various types of subassemblies, assemblies, and finished products.
- Requires the ability to operate hand and power tools and to test equipment.
- Requires the ability to climb on ladders, scaffolds, tables, etc., in performing assembly duties and handling the material.
- Requires the ability to lift up to 50lbs
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
- Requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in standard units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, proportions, area, circumference and angles
