Summary:
At Reality Labs Research (RL-R), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our Hardware Research Engineering team, whose mission is to design, build, and test prototype electrical systems for future consumer VR and AR experiences. We are specifically looking for someone with a broad set of experiences, including embedded design, analog/mixed signal design, RF, multimodal sensing, or low power design. The systems we work with could have ASICs, microcontrollers, microprocessors, FPGAs from simple to large, displays, audio, inertial sensors, haptic interfaces, image sensors, and high-speed I/O. The ideal person would have a demonstrated track record of designing mixed high-speed digital circuit boards, be experienced with troubleshooting at the board and system level, and have experience with display driver ICs.Experience working with an interdisciplinary team of researchers with tolerance for a high degree of ambiguity is essential.
Required Skills:
Electrical Engineer - Research Responsibilities:
Architect and design electrical engineering solutions for novel, head mounted VR/AR devices that include fabrication and assembly of Printed Circuit Boards, Flexible Printed Circuits, and Rigid Flexible Printed Circuits
Design for the current generations of programmable devices such as DSPs, FPGAs, microcontrollers, and microprocessors
Develop schematics, guide board layout, assemble, test, debug, and integrate multi-component electrical systems using industry-standard simulation and design packages such as SPICE, MATLAB, Altium or Cadence
Establish and conduct collaborations with multidisciplinary partners, both internal and external
Transform ambiguous requests and vendor reference designs into working custom solutions
Incubate new technologies into research prototypes
Successfully bring up and debug opto-electrical systems that include image sensors, display driver ICs, lasers, depth sensors, switching power supplies, and low/high-speed digital communication interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, MIPI and USB SS
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent experience and 3 + years of industry experience in hardware design or electrical engineering roles
Experience with schematic and board design using Cadence Orcad, Altium or equivalent
Experience with use of standard electrical engineering tools such as oscilloscopes, high speed digital test equipment, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers and function generators
Experience with mixed domain circuit design, filter design, operation/instrumentation amplifiers, ADC/DACs, power supply design, high speed differential circuits, uControllers, uProcessors, and programmable logic based development
Experience defining requirements, working independently, managing priorities and cross-functional collaboration
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent experience
6 + years of experience in research or advanced development - incubating new tech and guiding them through to product transfer
Familiarity with VR/AR systems, wearable low-power or portable electronic devices
Experience programming in other languages like Python/Java/C#/C++/C, creating initial system bring-up, debugging, and test code
Experience with IMUs/ or similar sensor systems with an understanding of calibration methods
Experience defining and coordinating test procedures in a lab and factory environment to facilitate system bring-up and evaluation
Experience with high speed signaling over DP, MIPI, HDMI, and USB SS
Experience with FPGA development (e.g., Verilog/VHDL)
Public Compensation:
$139,000/year to $200,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
