Description

Everett Ship Repair is the Pacific Northwest's Premiere Ship Repair Facility. Founded in 2019, Everett Ship Repair offers vast ship repair capabilities from its facility in Everett, Washington, including repair, maintenance, and conversion services for any type of commercial vessels, with focus on commercial workboats and passenger vessels. With the US Navy as our neighbor, it is no secret that we are in aggressive pursuit of earning their business as we grow our footprint, skills, and profile in this market. We are seeking Shipfitter Supervisor who will be responsible for leading and motivating his or her team by effectively communicating and continuously coaching team members to develop their skills and achieve department or project milestones and expectations. Typically, a Lead will be staffed with 5 to 10 team members. A lead may also be tasked with oversight of an especially critical department-wide function. The Fitter Lead role does not include any direct supervision issues relating to hiring, firing, or execution of formal discipline. The lead may serve as back-up for a Foreman when necessary, attending applicable meetings designated by their supervisor. The Lead will participate and may lead crew meetings and will always be a positive influence on the team.

What You will Do

  • Responsible for leading groups of 5 or more apprentice and journeyman
  • Primarily a working lead role, performs full range of journeyman duties on the boat (or in the shop or yard) while also executing daily work assignments and expectations for assigned team and/or task/ project
  • Sets daily and/or weekly goals and objectives for assigned crew members
  • Responsible for general oversight of personnel to include reporting
  • Follow all yard standards in areas of quality, safety, and productivity
  • Assists in production, directs workflow, responds to technical questions.
  • Update on regular basis project progress in an accurate and timely manner
  • Reviews the quality of work of employees working within work group, reports instances of deficiencies
  • Observes his or her workers' job performance and identifies any areas that require training, and assists in providing needed training and answers questions that his apprentices/employees may have.
  • Connects with his or her team and promotes an environment that promotes collaboration and teamwork
  • Works with QC to identify defects that require repair or rework for all work completed by his or her team.
  • Provides input into performance reviews for employees as well as raises concerns that might warrant more formal investigation or disciplinary action.
  • Performs paperwork associated with daily tasks, such as permits, audits, and time cards
  • Attends safety audits
  • Enforces all safety standards
  • Ensures employees under his or her supervision are properly directed and have all the necessary tooling, equipment, specifications, drawings to accomplish assigned work
  • Provide on-the-job training to those individuals under his/her supervision
  • Ensures that employees on his or her crew are qualified to perform their work
  • Participates and contributes to toolbox meetings and communicates safety concerns, work scope, plans, and schedules
  • Ensures through personal inspections that correct construction procedures are followed and work is following the plans and specifications. Points out deficiencies, explains and takes corrective action as needed
  • Accurately and in a timely manner, updates project progress at a frequency of at least once per week
  • Accurately and in a timely manner, enters time of all assigned employees at a frequency of at least once per day.
  • Other responsibilities and duties as assigned

Qualifications

What You Bring to Our Team

  • 4 years directly related experience or 8 years directly related ship building/ship repair experience
  • Must be a highly qualified journeyman
  • Knowledge on ship construction and ability to troubleshoot issues in real time
  • Effective leadership, communication, and team-building skills
  • Ability to read and understand and execute from drawing
  • Proven ability in people environment
  • Must be able to physically transit all areas of the facility and yard
  • Must be able to spend up to 70% of time in an outdoor shipyard environment in all climates.
  • Must be familiar with working in a shipyard -work-environment and be able to go aboard marine vessels, climb ladders, work in tanks and confined spaces, and wear personal protective equipment
