Position Summary & Responsibilities:

Position Summary:

This Engineering Technician Associate (Survey Crew Member) position is the entry level for the Engineering Technician class series. This position is statewide and is within the Bureau of Right of Way. This Engineering Technician Associate position aids in the acquisition and development of survey data to support the highway design and right of way control for engineering projects of KDOT. Assists on a preliminary design survey crew operating GPS equipment, robotic total stations, LIDAR scanners, and automatic levels in the gathering of survey data. Assists in the recovery of survey monumentation.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Assists on a preliminary design survey crew operating GPS equipment, robotic total stations, LIDAR scanners, and automatic levels in the gathering of survey data.
  • Assists in the recovery of survey monumentation. Utilizes hand and mechanical tools, such as a pickaxe, shovel, gas powered jack hammer, etc. Assists in the clearing survey project of weeds, brush and small trees with hand tools as directed for the survey operation.
  • Utilizes tripod/tribrach type equipment or prism pole for sights on survey operations.
  • Assists in traffic control as necessary.
  • Learns survey methods and survey math by on-the-job training from supervisor/staff.
  • Performs maintenance and minor repairs to survey equipment.
  • Serves as a note keeper during the survey operation. Takes notes that are clear, concise, accurate, and conform to procedure as detailed in the KDOT Survey Manual.

  • Valid Driver's License at time of appointment.
