POSITION: Full Time Maintenance Laborer- Grounds Dept Civil Service Non Competitive Position LOCATION: District Wide SUPERVISOR: Grounds Foreperson & Director of Facilities HOURS: Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. RESPONSIBILITIES:Performs a variety of routine tasks required in the maintenance of school district grounds. During inclement weather, performs a variety of routine maintenance and repair tasks inside school buildings. Able to operate district equipment and vehicles safely. Does related work as required. EXAMPLES OF WORK:(Illustrative Only)Mows, reseeds, rolls, and fertilizes lawns and athletic fields;Cares for flowerbeds;Rakes leaves and hauls away rubbish;Trims hedges, trees and shrubs;Operates a variety of school vehicles, trailers, and grounds maintenance equipment;Shovels or plows snow and ice from sidewalks and driveways;Patches sidewalks and driveways;Cleans gutters and catch basins;Removes garbage and litterPerforms miscellaneous routine maintenance and repair tasks inside school buildings during inclement weather and winter months;Paints/line stripes athletic fields and parking lots;Performs moving of district supplies, contents and equipment;May perform other incidental tasks, as needed. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES:Ability to follow oral instructions; ability to get along well with others; ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the essential duties of the position; willingness to perform routine manual work; industrious in work performance; thoroughness; dependability; physical endurance and agility; physical condition commensurate with the duties of the position. REQUIREMENTS:One year of experience in grounds laborer work Must have and maintain a valid driver's license SPECIAL REQUIREMENT FOR APPOINTMENT IN SCHOOL DISTRICTS:In accordance with the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation, Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, candidates for appointment in school districts must obtain clearance for employment from the State Education Department prior to employment based upon a fingerprint and criminal history background check.
