GC assistant wanted. experience w/ paint/drywall/trim preffered

  • Hillsboro, Oregon
  • Full Time
Hello all,

Im going to be transparent here because I am looking for a particular person to help me in my daily operations, its a long post Id prefer you read it to confirm compatibility.

My business is small and fragile and Ive had a handful of employees, friends and family members come in and help out over time; some were good for a while, some lasted a day and some lost me business.

Unfortunately, I havent found the person to really help me grow my business in the way Ive wanted. I need a right hand who has determined that this is the field of work they will be in whether youve settled into it or it plays into your goals. I want someone who can replicate what I do, and fill in where Im not, including staying late when needed to finish a unit, working a weekend when needed, and maintaining my quality standards on jobs.

what daily operations look like is mostly doing interior construction work in vacants apartments and rentals. Consisting of getting the tools and supplies needed to do jobs like paint, drywall installs/repairs and trim work like window casings, baseboards etc. We often times do work outside of these tasks but those can be taught overtime or delegated elsewhere.

Whats most important to me right now is someone experienced in at least one of the 3 mentioned fields, who is a problem solver, hard physical worker with exceptional attention to details and WANTS and values to learn and do this kind of work in their life. Also I prefer someone who has their own reliable transportation. I previously despised jobs that expected candidates to have their stuff together to get said job, but after grinding and figuring it out, Ive found that most people Ive dealt with age 25+ without a car or their stuff together, is often times for a personal reason and that struggle almost always bleeds into their work performance, this judgement coming from a section 8 baby ! Valid.

Currently I dont offer benefits but looking into adding healthcare, we need an active full time employee signed up for the benefits to be able to offer that so it can be a discussion ! No pressure either way.

What I can offer is simply, experience working on houses, growth in that experience and growth in compensation, and a flexible schedule, sometimes you dont know your schedule until the week of but I will often schedule around things you have going on in your life. I also offer a somewhat relaxed but ambitious work environment ( an example of that being that I smoke weed errday and play rap music but do not like slouchy lazy people and expect we bring our best energy and efforts and presentation to work daily and reflect it in the work quality )

Work locations are currently primarily
between st Helens and downtown Portland. Some weeks we will have overtime, and some weeks we may be slow, especially going into winter. I search for someone who wants and expects to work full time, but wouldnt implode if we only had 2 weeeks of work for the month of November, again thats not the goal here but it could happen and Id rather be warned of the risks.

If this all sounds like something you could work around, then please no resumes, just respond to this post via text or email answering 4 questions

1. Given my transparency about the position, what specifically interest you about this job?

2. What are the benefits of having you on my team?

3. What are you looking for out of a job?

4. How can this accommodate your short term goals?

Thank you for your time!
