SUMMARY
General Summary:Works as a senior electrician at Charlotte Douglas International Airport primarily performing high level work installing wiring, plugs, cabling, lights and switches; locating and repairing malfunctions in electrical circuits/equipment; inspecting, servicing, testing, performing PMs and repairing systems. Performs other general maintenance work incidental to above duties as necessary to keep buildings in working order, including basic HVAC and plumbing.
Responsibilities:
Installation, preventive maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical systems.
Provide lead direction and training to other employees.
General building maintenance work incidental to above duties or necessary to keep buildings in working order.
Compile lists of equipment, tools and supplies needed.
Operate cars, vans, bucket trucks and other heavy equipment.
Knowledge of other airport systems including HVAC, plumbing, generators, data emergency systems, aircraft fueling systems and electrical vehicle chargers.
Subject to emergency call back for equipment repairs and inclement weather.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate/GED required with five years of experience or associate degree and three years experience in a relevant work/industry/military/job specific experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties. At least five years experience in the electrical trade is strongly preferred. Working knowledge of other building trades and general building maintenance is required. NC State Electrical license preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems including cabling and communications wiring.
Ability to perform journey level work on electrical and mechanical systems.
Read and write sufficiently to complete paperwork and read schematic designs and blueprints.
Maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, contractors and tenants, representing the airport in a professional manner.
Follow verbal and written instructions.
Physical Requirements:
Spends about 70% of the time standing, bending, reaching, walking and driving. The rest of the time includes a combination of sitting, twisting, keeling, squatting, crawling, lifting, shoveling and carrying. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs. About 5% of time can lift, pull or carry up to 100 lbs a short distance, with another person.
Works inside and outside. May include exposure to machinery, dust, chemicals, fumes, solvents, moving objects/vehicles, scaffolding, ladders, vibrating tools, excessive noise, large crowds and slippery or uneven surfaces. May use heavy equipment, electric drill, electric saw, pipe wrench, pick-up truck and all hand tools.

General Information:
Works assigned shift plus rotating stand by (on call), weekend and holiday duty. Subject to calls back to work and shift variation during emergency/urgent operations.
Valid drivers license with no more than six points and ability to obtain and maintain City driving permit.
Certain criminal convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The Citys Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.
Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidates written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.
Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
