Mid-Level Substation Design Engineer
Job Summary
POWER Engineers, Member of WSP is seeking a Mid-Level Substation Design Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our Fort Worth, Texas office. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within commutable distance of the office).
Responsibilities
The Mid-Level Substation Design Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with our mission statement and culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving its department goals, maintain our high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork, and meet the needs of our clients.
Key responsibilities include performing and directing others in the detailed design of medium to extra-high-voltage utility substations. This includes, but is not limited to:
One-line, schematic, and wiring diagrams
SCADA and Communications
Station physical layouts, sections/elevations, and control enclosure details
Cable and conduit plans and details
Ground grid design and details
Foundation and structural plans and details
Lightning protection and yard lighting plans
Additional responsibilities include:
Creating construction cost estimates and contracts
Preparing the Bill of Materials
Managing project scheduling and coordination, which includes site visits
Supporting quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) for client deliverables
Occasional travel will be required
Required Education/Experience
BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university, preferably with a power option
Experience in 15kV through 500kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards
Experience managing small project teams and serving as a substation design engineer for multiple projects concurrently
Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship
Desired Education/Experience
5+ years of experience in utility substation design
Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
Professional Engineering license (PE) strongly preferred, or ability to sit for the exam within 6 months
Managerial and leadership skills a plus
