Mid-Level Substation Design Engineer

Job Summary

POWER Engineers, Member of WSP is seeking a Mid-Level Substation Design Engineer to work in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our Fort Worth, Texas office. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within commutable distance of the office).

Responsibilities

The Mid-Level Substation Design Engineer will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with our mission statement and culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving its department goals, maintain our high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork, and meet the needs of our clients.

Key responsibilities include performing and directing others in the detailed design of medium to extra-high-voltage utility substations. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • One-line, schematic, and wiring diagrams

  • SCADA and Communications

  • Station physical layouts, sections/elevations, and control enclosure details

  • Cable and conduit plans and details

  • Ground grid design and details

  • Foundation and structural plans and details

  • Lightning protection and yard lighting plans

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Creating construction cost estimates and contracts

  • Preparing the Bill of Materials

  • Managing project scheduling and coordination, which includes site visits

  • Supporting quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) for client deliverables

  • Occasional travel will be required

Required Education/Experience

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university, preferably with a power option

  • Experience in 15kV through 500kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards

  • Experience managing small project teams and serving as a substation design engineer for multiple projects concurrently

  • Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel

  • Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship

Desired Education/Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in utility substation design

  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate or successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam

  • Professional Engineering license (PE) strongly preferred, or ability to sit for the exam within 6 months

  • Managerial and leadership skills a plus
