Overview

The Utilities Maintenance Foreman is responsible for leading the Vactor maintenance crew that is responsible for sludge, trash, and debris removal from multiple tanks, vaults, and basins at all six of the City's wastewater treatment plants and any of the 107 lift stations as needed. The work involves direction from WW Plant Manager in areas of working with work management software, analyzing work order backlog, resource inventory, maintenance schedules, safety plans, job plans, traffic control, and coordination with other departments, contractors, and regulatory agencies

Responsibilities

  • Dally cleaning of sludge, trash, and debris from tanks, vaults, and basins at all six of the City's wastewater treatment plants and any of the 107 lift stations as needed
  • Establishes and monitors permit and non-permit required confined space entries
  • Lead and operates heavy equipment, energized and hand tools, pumps, motors, trailers, and CDL required vehicles
  • Responds to after hour call outs from any of the divisions within CCW; wastewater, water, MOL, Stormwater, etc. as well as emergency weather conditions and other events
  • With direction from the WW Plant Manager, reviews and writes emails, receives and makes phone calls in preparation for and in response to planned, requested, and required job plans
  • Participates in regular strategic planning, multi-skilled worker training planning, and root cause analysis sessions with Planner Schedulers, other Work Coordinators, and Training Coordinators
  • With direction from WW Plant Manager, work with project managers, contractors, representatives, and engineers to ensure effective execution of projects and work assignments
  • Assist In the hiring process, developing job descriptions, job analysis questionnaires and preemployment Interview questionnaires, and by conducting pre-employment interviews
  • Provide technical leadership and training for the multi-skilled workforce
  • Lead the performance of multi-skilled workers at various levels
  • Assist by providing documentation of employee concerns to the WW Plant Manager
  • Provide input when requested for policy development
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

  • Non - Exempt - Full-Time
  • Non rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 4:00 pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed
  • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/ GED
  • Five (5) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

  • Candidate must register with FMSCA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse
  • A valid Class A Commercial Driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
