Job Description The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for maintaining effective mechanical design bases for transformer layouts and providing technical expertise to customers both within and outside of the organization. This role involves reviewing assigned projects, comparing customer specifications to other design data, and noting any inconsistencies or special requirements. Responsibilities
- Systematically review the mechanical design rules of all products to ensure customer needs are met while maintaining organizational cost and reliability goals. This includes defining customer requirements and performing detailed analysis of loads, stresses, materials, and manufacturing processes.
- Provide recommendations, plan, and execute approved projects that improve product competitiveness, working closely with manufacturing, purchasing, and other functions.
- Identify, plan, and execute projects to provide new product designs and extensions of current products, collaborating with inter-departmental teams.
- Develop and recommend solutions to complex and unusual order-related requirements to manage risk.
- Document the rationale for mechanical designs and provide rules for executing specific product designs.
- Provide technical expertise and training in mechanical design, stress analysis, and manufacturing processes.
- Understand and correctly interpret product scope, quality standards, and industry standards to ensure the proper design and application of transformer and substation products.
- Support Marketing in bid preparation through the interpretation of product scope and innovative application of transformer and substation products.
- Act as a project leader on assigned projects.
- Consult with Marketing and customers to find areas for product expansion and refinement.
- Resolve specific production and customer problems by collaborating with engineering, manufacturing quality assurance, field service, purchasing personnel, and vendors.
- Proficiency in Pro Engineer.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles.
- Experience with motors, generators, switchgear, and electromechanical systems.
- Ability to perform complex calculations.
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Design or related field.
- Minimum 3 years of design experience with Creo/Pro-E.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the motors, generators, switchgear, or electromechanical industry.
