Laborer - VEGETATION (Roads, Bridges & Engineering)

Position Summary

Works under direct supervision to perform physical labor of an unskilled nature generally in an outside location at the Roads, Bridges & Engineering Department.

Pay Grade: 41H

Minimum Qualifications

1. Two (2) years of work experience, preferably in an outdoor environment; AND

2. Tenth (10) grade education.

3. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Performs unskilled labor of a manual nature.

2. Assists with construction and maintenance, cleaning brush, cleaning, and spraying rights-of-way and ditches

3. Assists with performing non-skilled maintenance of equipment; setting grade stakes; flagging traffic.

4. Spots trucks for dumping and other delivery.

5. Operates non-complex equipment.

6. Assists with pile-driving operations.

7. Operates spreader box on trucks, brings supplies, and equipment to labor sites.

8. Mows grass, loads and unloads materials.

9. Acts as an essential worker to respond to emergencies and must work in inclement weather, i.e. snow, flooding, ice, and high winds.

10. Performs other related duties as required or directed.

KSAs

1. Ability to work as directed and follows oral instructions.

2. Physical ability to perform assigned work tasks.

3. Ability to learn simple techniques from reasonable instructions.

4. Ability to cooperate with other personnel.

5. Ability to work in an outdoor environment.

Physical Requirements

1. Must be able to lift and carry up to 90 lbs.

2. Must work in inclement weather, i.e. snow, flooding, ice, and high winds.

Special Requirements

1. Must have a valid TN Drivers License.

2. Must pass a physical examination.

3. M ust submit to and pass drug and alcohol screening.
