Plant Purchasing Agent

Purpose:

Manages the supply chain and procurement of components for a production plant to ensure timely receipt of goods and services to support the manufacturing of product. The components can be both external or internal. Works with the direction of Purchasing Director to manage goods and services to ensure sound JIT/Lean Manufacturing practices.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to the organizational effectiveness and productivity by acting and communicating in a manner such that good relationships are maintained with co-workers, management, customers, suppliers and others.

  • Manages responsible area to meet the Policy Deployment Goals assigned by Management

  • Works directly with Product Development Teams and manages component sourcing/planning for a given production line.

  • Works in conjunction with the MRP system for all components to support the production line with JIT/Lean Mfg. principles of having the "Right part, at the Right place, at the Right time".

  • Converts MRP orders to purchase orders, places all line PO's, and manages supplier backorders and shortages. Expedites backorders, and processes reports to determine how much and when parts should arrive.

  • Performs or coordinates various analytical studies of inventory performance (i.e., usage patterns, days of supply, excess and obsolete, etc.).

  • Establishes and maintains appropriate "order policies", lot sizes, lead times, etc., based on projected future requirements, available material and capacity, and trade-offs between inventory carrying cost and shop efficiencies; using system tools (reports, queries, etc.) maintains accurate database information.

  • Maintains scheduled work orders to assure accuracy of parts to be used, quantities and sequencing. and reviews sales order changes and determines availability of parts required to complete change order.

  • Works with shop floor personnel and management to resolve materials issues.

  • Works with suppliers in forecasting the Supply Chain for their given production line

  • Reduce/eliminate line shortages

  • Supplier defects

  • Forecasts according to production plan

  • Manages & authorizes substitutions for parts /materials when required

  • Determines the disposition of rejected material (returns to suppliers, scraps, etc.). Writes up necessary paperwork for credit, etc

  • Performs data entry of new parts, adjusting order quantities. Performs supplier charge backs for late material, poor quality, etc.

  • Sources components as needed at the direction of the Purchasing Director, Product Director and Engineering

  • Sends RFQ's and Bids product lines to potential suppliers

  • Processes item masters and completes item master input process for any new components or any new supplier

  • Completes price change notices when components prices fluctuate or when suppliers change.

  • Negotiates and issues purchase orders for tooling commitments if necessary.

  • Authorizes the substitution of parts/materials and/or suppliers with approval from Engineering if necessary to avoid shortages or downtime.

  • Maintains accurate records of all correspondence, agreements and quotes between TMC and Suppliers. Ensures that quotes for all components are on file and up to date.

  • Minimize obsolescence and excess inventory; works with Product Development and Engineering on managing inventory during its lifecycle

  • Unit shortage reporting

  • Manage high paced environment

  • The ability to identify problems and make decisions in a high-stress environment

  • Works in a cross-functional atmosphere with Product Development, Engineering, Production, Quality, Parts/Service and support areas

  • Needs to be able to utilize software tools (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, ERP Systems) to manage day to day functions and plan workload

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
