DSHS FTAA Maintenance Mechanic 1

Some of what you'll do:

  • Perform semi-skilled maintenance and construction work on buildings, fixtures, equipment, grounds, walks and driveways, building and repairing lots and sidewalks
  • Clean, service, adjust, and make repairs on tools and equipment, such as electric and gas engine drive compressors, large mowers, pneumatic tamper, jackhammer, snowplows and portable pumps
  • Assists Maintenance Mechanic's 2 and others when needed
  • Assists Grounds staff as needed
  • Snow removal-operates bucket loader and snowplow, snow blower, snow shovel, sand and salt roads as well as sidewalks
  • Load and unload trucks-furniture, equipment, supplies, materials, Assemble when necessary
  • Operate vehicles and transport clients, materials and supplies
  • Vendor contacts, research parts and order parts needed for job requirements
  • Operates hand tools, power tolls and other shop equipment
  • Performs minor repairs on building fixtures-plumbing, heating, laundry, kitchen equipment, motors, and electrical appliances
  • independently perform semi-skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, welding, metal fabrication, steam fitting, electrical, HVAC, mechanical and machinist work

What we are looking for:

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions described in this announcement successfully
  • Must be able to communicate with professional conduct and comprehend, through oral and written forms of communication, with management, peers, clients, and the public
  • Dress appropriately for the work to be performed including wearing Personal Protective Equipment when necessary.
  • Knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of mechanical trades, safety precautions, record keeping, and basic computer skills

Who should apply?

Position typically requires high school graduation AND two years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction or repair work.

OR

Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled trade or equivalent experience

Possession of a valid motor vehicles operator license may be required
