About Field Operations:
The City of Greensboro comprises numerous departments and functions that offer a wide range of services to the residents and businesses of Greensboro. The City of Greensboro's Solid Waste and Recycling Operations Department provides a variety of services to Greensboro residents, including:
- Trash, recycling, yard waste, leaf, and bulk collection services
- Street and stormwater maintenance and repairs
- Mowing and landscaping services
- Transfer Station and White Street Landfill

Compensation and Benefits:
The Estimated Hiring Salary Range is $42,072.00 - $55,358.00. Full hiring range is $42,072.00-$75,287.00, depending on qualifications.

The Work Schedule:
The standard week starts on Wednesday and ends on Tuesday
Rotation 4 days on 3 days off
M, T, TH, F 5:45 AM TO 7:15 PM
W, Sat 5:45 AM TO 6:45 PM
- Schedule subject to change based on business needs*
Primary Duties/Brief Description of Work:
The Disposal Heavy Equipment Operator must: have knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of heavy equipment; be able to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; have the ability to learn a variety of semi-skilled and skilled construction and maintenance tasks, practices, methods, mathematical calculations, and materials used in general construction and maintenance work; ability to learn safe work practices and report any potentially unsafe conditions; demonstrate attention to detail and strive continuously to build knowledge and skills; be able to
deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
This job is Non-Exempt and is subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA)
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High School Diploma/GED,
OR an equivalency of 2 years of education and 5 years of experience operating a skid steer, rubber tire loader, rubber tire excavator, dump trucks, and front-end loaders.
Valid Driver's License
1+ years of related experience operating a skid steer, rubber tire loader, rubber tire excavator, dump trucks, and front-end loaders with the ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver's License ("OR" obtain within 6 months of hire date)
NC SWANA (Solid Waste Association of North America) Transfer Station Operator's Certification ("Or" the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date)
The following Management Preferences are not required, but applicants who possess these skills are preferred:
- Experience operating heavy equipment in a landfill or transfer station environment
