Mobile Core Solution Design Engineer

We are looking for an experienced Solution Design Engineer to support our Sim for Things value stream, with a focus on leading and contributing to the analysis, design, development and implementation of network solutions based on business, technical, operational and regulatory requirements.

You will have the opportunity to work together with a cross-functional team to ensure a high quality for our products and a satisfactory experience for our customers. You will implement solutions following defined objectives, budget, effort, and timing. You will ensure an optimal balance between third-party/vendor solutions and internal development/integration work. Additionally, you will take end-to-end responsibility for actions across the project life cycle, from the requirements phase to the launch into the production environment.

The candidate should have a solid telecommunications and IT background and take part in technology assessments to identify the best evolution of technical solutions and platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review technical solutions to confirm they meet business, regulatory, operational, cost, time-to-market, and quality requirements;
  • Lead technical platform development, shape the roadmap, maximise technology use, and apply call-flow analysis and troubleshooting expertise;
  • Contribute to end-to-end implementation projects of small to medium scale by coordinating with stakeholders and supporting the design, rollout, and maintenance of technical platforms and operational systems;
  • Draft and review both functional and technical specifications, as well as Requests for Proposal (RFP) documents;
  • Develop methods, procedures, and technical documentation-primarily focused on architecture and impact analysis-for use by various stakeholders such as marketing, product management, and operational teams;
  • Engage in the implementation of technical solutions in close collaboration with our operational teams;
  • Provide outstanding support to both internal and external stakeholders in the technical domain, building credibility and trust while serving as a respected authority within the area of expertise.

Required Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in telecommunications and/or IT;
  • Good knowledge of networks, telecommunications and the IT landscape;
  • At least six years of professional experience in a telecom or IT environment;
  • Strong technical knowledge in the following: HTTP, SS7, Diameter, MAP, INAP, GTP;
  • Experience on SIM Applets, Over The Air (OTA), eSim, eUICC, SMDP/SMSR, SMDP+;
  • Overall view of the mobile core and understanding of call-flows is considered an asset;
  • Possess proven experience in designing and deploying comprehensive mobile core network solutions, including 4G LTE and 5G core networks, across traditional and cloud-based environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud;
  • Fluent in English with strong written and spoken communication skills;
  • An excellent team player who communicates, shares, and collaborates effectively;
  • Demonstrates flexibility in coordinating work with colleagues and applying rules and procedures as needed;
  • Customer-oriented with a strong sense of ownership and determination to deliver on time and meet expectations;
  • Capable of explaining and presenting technical concepts in a way that suits the audience;
  • Eager to learn, quickly grasps existing solutions, and can learn autonomously when required;
  • Possesses good planning and organization skills, analytical thinking, and problem-solving abilities;
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills;
  • Proficient in presentation and project management;
  • Adopts a solution-oriented approach with a focus on customer needs;
  • Proactive in risk management;
  • Sensitive to various cultures and able to work in an international environment.

Prefered Qualifications

  • Hands-on knowledge on two or more mobile core components in 2G, 3G, LTE (P-GW/GGSN, HSS/HLR, PCRF) is preferred;
  • Experience in roaming, IoT/M2M and background in MVNO/MVNE environment;
  • Knowledge of the international carrier business is an asset.
