Worker will be required to perform a variety of duties related to the production of onions. The majority of the work activities during the overall contract period, however, will be related to the onion warehouse operation. Packing shed/facility (preparing freshly harvested crops for shipment in their original, unmanufactured state - sorting; palletizing & prepare for shipping. Packing shed/facility duties will include: standing for long periods on hard, concrete surfaces at grading tables grading and sorting onions by size, color and aesthetic appearance; removing onions that are not to the specific grade. Packing onions into 2, 3, 5, 25, and 50 pound bags and stack and/or secure finished goods. Packing shed tasks also include: Sorting onions; removing debris; cull onions; hanging empty bags on bag filling machines; lifting and stacking full bags and restocking packaging materials. Workers may be required to add empty bags to bagger machines; remove full bags from machines; manually cinch and tie the bags and stack onion bags up to 60 pounds on pallets placing them in a specific pattern on a pallet; stacking them from 40 bags to 100 bags per pallets, depending on size, for shipping in an onion packing shed. Workers may also be required to manually fold cardboard (precut/perforated) to create boxes; folding closed after filled with onions. Worker will then place the full boxes on a pallet, stacking in a particular pattern to a quantity of 42 boxes per pallet. Duties include the moving and stacking bins; transferring and stacking of bins and /or pallets full of product onto the trailer. Daily individual work assignments may differ and will be determined based on the harvest schedule and the requirements of the onion shed operation. Workers may be required to perform work at the packing/storage site such as cleaning; maintain/repair storage and packing building; and sort and move packaging cartons, bags, labels, and pallets.
