The overall function of this position is Performs welding on various items in the District welding shop and on the road also such as mobile equipment, buildings, bridges, I-Beams, Ferries, and others to maintain safe working conditions within the District 03 area. This position is located in District 03 of the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development and reports directly to the Welder Foreman. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks.

Two years of experience or training in the welding trade; OR

Completion of a Technical Diploma or Associate of Applied Science welding program from a Louisiana Technical or Community College or equivalent program from other institutions.

• Welding on-road -Welding on mowers, bridges, buildings, tractors, dump trucks, I-Beams, rest areas, and roadside parks. Lays out, cuts, and fits material for welding. Uses various ferrous and non-ferrous metals including but not limited to steel, iron, cast iron, copper, aluminum, etc. Uses grinding equipment to provide a finished quality surface to all metals and welds when needed. Also welds and fabricates on pontoons.

• Welding in shop -Welding, fabrication, modifying design of various types of assets and equipment such as those listed above.

• Cleans work area and performs preventative maintenance on all equipment.

• May be required to perform other duties as necessary including, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
