Performs routine operations and maintenance of the wastewater plant, laboratory, pumps, lift stations, and collection system. Maintains and operates drinking water wells, transmission and distribution lines, diversion structures, and valves to provide safe, clean, and pleasing drinking water to the community. Under direct supervision assists in the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant through proper operation of valves, pumps, and chemical treatment requirements to meet NPDES standards. Assists in the collection and analysis of samples of water and wastewater to test and record treatment conditions for mandated state requirements. Maintains conditions and records for daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports. Assists in maintaining the collection system, including flushing and rodding. Assists in maintaining the collection system lift stations. Assists in maintaining valves, fire hydrants, and water lines to ensure proper operation of transmission and distribution systems. Inspects new water and service lines at homes and businesses, as well as maintaining current locations. Install, maintain, and read meter accounts and, where necessary, discontinue service to delinquent accounts. Provide routine maintenance and repairs to and assist in the operation of the distribution system and facilities. Performs quality control tests on lab equipment and lab analyses; evaluates procedures and results for accuracy and determines appropriate methods. Takes self-initiative to assure that plant and all equipment in the system operates within required standards. Contains and disposes of hazardous wastes generated by the lab. Calibrates, modifies, or repairs instrumentation and control equipment including recorders, flow meter and other water quality monitoring equipment. Operates various construction and maintenance equipment such as backhoe, front end loader, dump trucks, plow trucks, and sewer cleaning truck. Assists the DPW regularly in the aid of snow removal etc. Responds to emergency callout. Serves on various employees or other committees as assigned. Will work with other City of Norway departments as needed. To include all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Valid State Driver's license.

Preferred Education and Experience

Associate s degree in a related field.

D Wastewater license from MI EGLE.

D-3 and S-3 license from MI EGLE.

2 or more years of experience in a municipal water utility, or equivalent.

Class B CDL N Endorsement with air brakes and Tanker Endorsement

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Working knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in water and wastewater treatment/distribution maintenance and operation activities, working knowledge of laboratory procedures and practices.

Skill in operation of some of the listed tools and equipment.

Ability to perform process control calculations; to work safely; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.

Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Valid State Driver's license.

Must obtain a Michigan Commercial Driver s License (Class B with air brakes and tanker endorsement) within six months of signing date.

Must obtain MIEGLE D Wastewater License within 2 years of signing date.

Must obtain MIEGLE S-4 Water Licenses within 2 years of signing date.

Must obtain MIEGLE D-4 Water License when determined by the city.
