Are you passionate about building safety and compliance? Do you have a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of the building code and regulations? Christchurch City Council is seeking a dedicated Commercial Building Inspector to help ensure our growing community is safe, sustainable, and built to last.
As a Commercial Building Inspector, you will:
Conduct inspections of commercial buildings to ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and approved plans.
Provide expert advice to developers, architects, and the public on building compliance matters.
Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate records.
Collaborate with planning, environmental health, and fire safety teams.
What We're Looking For:
Regulation 18 Qualification (or commitment to gain this qualification)
Under National BCA Competency Assessment as being at least Com 1. We are looking for Building Inspectors at level 3.
At least 3 years' experience in the building industry, preferably in a wide variety of New Zealand building projects. This could be experience in design, draughting, plumbing, drainage, construction, construction supervision or any combination of above.
Strong knowledge of the New Zealand Building Code and relevant legislation.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Hours of work - 37.5 - 40 hours per week
Position - Permanent, Full-time
Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street
Salary - The salary band for this position is $96,465 $107,183 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Competency is achieved through assessments so Inspectors can progress at different rates. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles.
