Qualifications
Operate tools, mower, edger and trimmer
High School Diploma or G.E.D
Ability to obtain and maintain a Class D wastewater certification from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within 1 year of Hire Date
Ability to upgrade and maintain to a Class C operator license within 2 years of hire date
Need to follow TCEQ requirements
Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of time; use of fingers and of both hands required; ability to kneel, stoop, sit, bend, squat, climb and lift; adequate eyesight, hearing, and speech; field inspections require navigating uneven surfaces and grounds; may require entering trenches and climbing ladders
Must be able to pass drug screen and physical

Responsibilities
Under supervision and/or instruction, performs installations, repairs, and maintains all related equipment and instrumentation to the wastewater treatment plant and completes related work tasks as required
Conducts plant operations for the purpose of operating and maintaining a waste water treatment plant to protect the public health
Works effectively with other employees to repair, replace, and maintain pumps, motors, instrumentation, and other related equipment
Protects the public health
Reads, understands, and follows written and oral job instructions
Records logs for reports by hand
Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned
Operates and maintains the wastewater plant equipment for treatment of wastewater to include cleaning, plant monitoring and operating equipment
Operates and maintains a wastewater treatment plant to protect downstream users in accordance with applicable state and federal water quality regulations
Operates and maintains a sludge dewatering press achieving cake result within applicable standards
Performs, repairs and conducts preventative maintenance for both treatment plant and belt press equipment such as lift station pumps and sludge pumps, jet pumps, clarifier motors, digester motors, blowers, rotostrainer and motor, backwash and skimmer pumps
Collects samples for the following scheduled plant and press laboratory tests: acute and chronic/toxicity test, process to significantly reduce pathogens, toxicity leaching procedure, and a summary of low and high effluent pH and monthly operators reports
Updates all schedule maintenance records, office communication records and purchase order records
Maintains required range of chlorinated and dechlorinated residuals and makes adjustment if necessary
Performs other related duties as required
Perform basic mathematical calculations
Write reminders, instructions and reports
SUPERVISION RECEIVED and EXERCISED:
Receives direction from the Water & Wastewater Superintendent and/or Public Works Director
Exercises supervision over the Wastewater Treatment Plant
Works indoors with some exposure to mechanical, electrical, explosive, fume, odor, dust, chemical and toxic waste hazards, using proper safety precautions; serve on stand-by for after-hours emergency work as required
Frequent outdoor conditions; exposure to conditions of construction and utility project sites including loud noises, dust, heavy equipment; exposure to inclement weather; exposure to other hazards while conducting field inspections; exposure to moving vehicles and equipment, slippery surfaces, and other related conditions
Maintain mental capacity that permits making sound judgments regarding work and have regular attendance
