We approach problems with creativity and innovation. The Longmont, CO office of Schnabel Engineering, is seeking a full-time entry level Civil Engineer to join our team of professional engineers. We are looking for a motivated candidate with an interest in working on our nation’s critical infrastructure, a desire to develop both field and analytical skills, and a desire to be part of a strong team of geologists and engineers.
Longmont, CO office of Schnabel, focuses on civil and geotechnical engineering design of structures and facilities within our dams, tunnels and water resources engineering groups. Example projects generally include the design of dam embankments, reservoir inlet and outlet works, spillways, water control, conveyance and measurement structures, pump stations, and pipelines, gates and valves.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist in planning and performing geotechnical investigations and analyses
- Assist in reinforced concrete design
- Assist in earthen embankment design
- Assist in additional civil engineering calculations with input and guidance from senior engineers in accordance with procedures, guidelines, and industry standards.
- Assist in the preparation of design drawings in collaboration with our CAD department
- Assist in the preparation of technical specifications for contract documents
- Assist in preparation of reports with input and guidance from senior engineers and drafters in accordance with procedures, guidelines, and industry standards.
- Performing field construction observation and documentation, materials testing (soil compaction and reinforced concrete inspections) related to dams, earthen embankments, slurry walls, spillways, pipelines, drainage, and hydraulic structures
- Draft technical reports
- Prepare data-driven graphics for engineering reports, professional papers and presentations
- Proficiency in Excel and creating Excel tables for data entry
- Calculating quantities and materials for cost estimates
- Assisting in cost estimate preparation
- Some travel will be required
Required Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
- Strong interest or background in geotechnical engineering, material testing, or construction observation
- Willingness to perform a variety of tasks including office and field work
- Prior professional work or summer intern work in a related field is desirable but not required
- 0-3 years of experience in civil engineering
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Good organizational skill and the ability to multi-task
- Problem solving abilities
- Detail-oriented
- Ability to work with direction as part of a team and independently after training
- Positive attitude
- Strong work ethic and desire to learn
- Desire and willingness to work outdoors and travel
- Ability to routinely lift up to 40 pounds
Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license, personal vehicle and willingness to drive personal vehicle to job sites; mileage (excluding mileage from commute) will be reimbursed based on allowable IRS rate for travel assignments
- Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
The compensation range for this position is between $57,200 to $86,000.Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
