We manufacture and market prestressed concrete (PC) strand and welded wire reinforcement, including engineered structural mesh, concrete pipe reinforcement, and standard welded wire reinforcement for concrete reinforcement applications. The company operates eleven manufacturing facilities in nine states.

About You

The person we are looking for possesses strong negotiation, communication, and analytical skills, along with a keen attention to detail and an understanding of market trends. They are adept at building and managing supplier relationships, evaluating contracts and anticipating potential disruptions in the supply chain through inventory control and fiscal responsibility.

Position Snapshot

A Purchasing Agent is commonly expected to know how to utilize Insteel's Computerized Maintenance Manager Software (CMMS), to comply with standard procedures, maintain the storeroom inventory, review requisitions and issues and/ or follow up on purchase orders as required. To be successful in this role, you will:

Purchasing

Runs reorder reports to inspect for accuracy.

Enters purchase orders for repair or maintenance items.

Reviews requisitions, consolidates, and turns into purchase orders.

Runs Maximo or applicable program and issues purchase orders for indicated items.

Supplements cycle count with random visual inspections to assure adequate supplies are on hand.

Purchases operational supplies other than raw material such as lubricants, strapping, etc.

In conjunction with Maintenance and Supply Room employee(s), identifies and purchases maintenance and repair supplies and services.

Calls vendors for prices and delivery.

Returns unwanted or defective items; follows up for credit.

Evaluates safety stock and adjusts as indicated.

Runs applicable program to audit issues and charges to various departments. Corrects or adjusts to monthly close-out.

Courier

Packs boxes for UPS, courier and/or other pickups.

Coordinates pickups and deliveries with suppliers.

Provides courier service by picking up necessary supplies.

Accounting

Monitors item accounting codes to ensure accurate assignments of charges.

Assists and coordinates with Accounting Department on invoice and vouchering process.

Assists in reconciliation of petty cash.

Prepares and submits month-end accruals.

Files packing list as needed.

Requirements and Education:

High school diploma or equivalent; knowledge of arithmetic, English, and grammar. Accuracy and simple use of calculators, computers, adding machine, and telephones and such typical office equipment. Adaptable to clerical routines.

A minimum of 3 months of work-related experience is required.

An equivalent combination of education and work-related experience may be acceptable.

Prior experience with Maximo or another CMMS system is preferred but not required

Prior experience using Microsoft Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is preferred but not required
