Overview

Maintains, repairs and installs all refrigeration, heating, cooling and air conditioning systems and equipment of the hospital or clinics.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects and operates refrigeration, cooling, and air conditioning systems and equipment to ensure all are functioning properly.
  • Installs new equipment and systems and repairs and maintains current equipment and systems as needed.
  • Monitors and inspects work to ensure compliance with codes and regulations. Coordinates preventive maintenance with emergency and repair work activities.
  • Inspects and operates refrigeration machinery, cooler, and freezer units. Regulates refrigerant and suction valves to increase or decrease amount of refrigerant in order to maintain desired degree of compression.
  • Maintains and repairs systems; tests efficiency of system and makes adjustments as needed to thermostatic controls and blowers.
  • Installs refrigeration machinery, air conditioning equipment, water coolers, and small refrigerators. Troubleshoots and performs diagnostic tests on problematic or defective equipment.
  • Maintains all required records and information pertinent to costing out work assignments.
  • Maintains all required records and information pertinent to refrigerant usage.
  • Keeps work areas orderly, clean and safe. Ensures proper care in the use of equipment and supplies.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Technical or Vocational High School diploma required.

Experience:

  • Minimum three (3) years of comparable work experience, required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be able to read plans, blueprints or drawings.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of specialty and be able to use all specialty tools and diagnostic equipment.

Licenses, Certifications:

  • EPA Refrigerant Certification required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Involves standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing and bending.
  • May include some repetitive motions.
