Position Overview:

The Electrical & Instrumentation Superintendent is responsible for leading the safe, efficient, and reliable operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all site electrical and instrumentation systems. This leadership role will oversee a team of E&I supervisors, E&I technicians and contractors, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations, driving continuous improvement, and supporting operational excellence in a heavy industrial environment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervise E&I maintenance teams, including electricians, instrumentation technicians, and contractors.
  • Coordinate daily, weekly, and long-term work plans in collaboration with operations, maintenance, and engineering.
  • Oversee maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of all electrical and instrumentation assets, including motors, MCCs, VFDs, PLCs, control systems, analyzers, sensors, and field instruments.
  • Ensure preventive and predictive maintenance programs are in place and executed effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with all electrical codes, standards, and regulatory requirements (NFPA 70E, NEC, OSHA, MSHA, etc.).
  • Maintain and enforce lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and safe work practices.
  • Verify contractor qualifications and oversee safe execution of contracted work.
  • Collaborate with engineering on capital projects involving E&I scope, including new installations, upgrades, and system integrations.
  • Review and approve technical specifications, drawings, and commissioning plans.
  • Manage budgets, schedules, and resources for E&I-related projects.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation of electrical and instrumentation systems.
  • Drive standardization of work practices, tools, and spare parts.
  • Identify opportunities for system optimization, energy efficiency, and cost reduction.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Journeyman or Master Electrician certification (required).
  • Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or related technical field (preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of E&I experience in a heavy industrial environment (mining, chemical processing, oil & gas, power generation, etc.), with at least 5 years in a supervisory role

Desired Qualities:

  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems, instrumentation, PLC/DCS control systems, and industrial communication networks.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting complex control and power systems.
  • Familiarity with CMMS/EAM systems for work management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Commitment to safety and fostering a strong safety culture.

Working Conditions - Our facility sits at an elevation of 4,700 feet. Employees may be subject to extreme weather conditions when working in an outdoor setting (heat and cold, wind). Work is at an open pit mine or manufacturing/chemical plant setting, which may include exposure to moving mechanical parts, toxic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, explosives, fumes, or airborne particles.

Physical Demands - Manual dexterity; sense of touch; sense of smell; speaking clearly; hearing-speech range; hearing – all ranges; seeing, reading and comprehensions; seeing – distant/near; depth perception; color vision. While performing the job responsibilities, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to stand and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate laboratory equipment. The employee is occasionally required to walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employees must pass a full-face respiratory fit test. Employees must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work in PPE level C. These requirements are representative, but not all-inclusive, of the knowledge, skill, and ability required of the employee.
